Atarex

Has anyone heard of this med? It was given to me for Interstital Cystitis and it has several different uses including helping narcotics work better. I'm not on any narcotics right now but it just interested me that it is used for that.

Do you mean Atarax?

This is a very potent RX antihistamine (first generation), used for blocking the itching from opiates, among other things.

It is more potent than Benadryl.

Another version of this is called Vistaril. This is highly sedating and sometimes used as a sedative for children before medical or dental procedures. It can be used also as a tranquilizer for some patients.

Yes, more potent than Benadryl. I was given it for hives awhile back when I was spiking bad allergic reactions left & right. I found it extremely sedating, although supposedly it is less so than Benadryl.
