Hershey PA what do you know?
The DH asked me to pick a spot I wanted to visit, and I dont know why but I spit out Hershey. I love chocolate, its a place I have driven by, but never stopped at, and think if I went off season I would be ok.
Ever been? tell me! |
Hershey's has been in the news because they have been outsourcing their candy making operations over the last several years. I was there in 1981 and toured the candy facility, but we did not do the amusement park. But because of the outsourcing and loss of jobs for those in Pennsylvania who made Hershey's what they are today, I won't buy Hershey's products any more.
The experience I had at Hershey was disappointing. We enjoyed Wilbur Chocolate factory in Lititz more. |
aww, I didnt know that about them. guess I will stick to my godiva and stay home. :(

How does a nice retreat in the mountains of Vermont (Ludlow area) sound? Or a trip to Cape Cod? Heck, if I got to start my trip in NH, I would be heading for Nova Scotia in a heartbeat! |
I wanted to head south, not north. its a bit warmer there, and I want out of the snow, slush and ice.
I gotta find someplace to go. |
PA is not South!! Snow and cold live there. Jeez, even Inner Harbour,
Maryland is warmer a LITTLE. Wait for spring, ride the water taxis to Fell's Point, eat, shop and drink a little, have a crab cake, go to Little Italy. Need more? DC is an hour away (the places, food and museums!). And Johns-Hopkins Hospital, also in Baltimore, has a MS Center and isn't too far away. (Not that I'm really suggesting a visit there ) I've been to Hershey for other reasons in April), not even sure park is open in cold or did you want to see chocolate only? There's Utz (potato chips) in PA ,also (good bar too) and a pretzel place too I think. And there's always the Amish (but do their buggies have snow tires?) |
My sentiments exactly, Kicker. Pennsylvania's weather is just like Ohio's and I live in southern Ohio.. :D

In DC, at the Mint, you can see how money is printed. And the Smithsonian. Not crowded in off season. I want to go to newer Native-American museum. There's a Crime and Punishment museum too. And good food..

I would have to agree with those who know about PA weather. I may be a tad partial but you may possibly consider Virginia. I live in Richmond and am 2 hours from D.C., 2 hours from the Shenandoah Mountains and valley, and 2 hours from Virginia Beach resort.
There are plenty of wineries through out the area, you have Williamsburg, Yorktown, Norfolk Naval Base, and plenty of places to visit from Washington D.C. to Virginia Beach. The weather right now hovers around 40 to 55 degrees. The last I experienced Hershey was years ago but would have to consult with a travel agent now to know what's going on there with regards to the lodging, plant and amusement park. Mostly a summer visit type place to me. |
The Shenandoah mountains are gorgeous. We visited the LaVern(?)Caverns (not far from there) and DH, me and our 9 year olds loved it. We chose to stay in a more rustic, built by the CCC in the 30s(?), chestnut wood walls (Pretty much extinct now) motel. It was great. We saw bears!!! (not that I'd drive up the mountains in all the crazy weather the South has been having)
