Feliway, ever heard of it?
:( as far as Jack the cat I have tried multiple remedies to get him around that stressful corner. He is on antidepressants, he is on anti anxiety meds, he has been given accupuncture, and cat massage and so on. This far nothing has worked, and he remained a stressed out mess. He was quickly headed towards another flare of this awful disease when I spoke to yet another vet. This vet reccomended a feline hormone spray that can be purchased commercially called Feliway. Skeptical and upset that even more of my money is chasing down the drain, now I need to buy him his own cat spray? Purchased the stuff online and even used over night shipping. LOADS of money for that trip. I sprayed a simple new toy with the stuff. (so it wouldnt have any old smells on it) and let it dry and then laid it in his bed. 3 minutes later...he was sound asleep and purring! WTF is in this stuff?! He was calm the rest of the afternoon, and even slept thru the night! He has stretched, and played with toys long since forgotten. Im simply amazed! feliway.com if you want to know about this product.
Im telling you this is a new cat! its like someone snuck in my house and told him the secret to life. He is still nervous and worried that I am about to medicate him (he HATES that) but he is sunning himself, napping, and playing with his sister! Why did I not know about this stuff?! It can be gotten much more cheaply on Amazon.com or fostersandsmith website has free shipping if you go over $49. AMAZING! There is a cute short video at Feliway.com to show how the stuff works. Simply wild! |
Interesting:
http://www.ehow.com/about_5049623_feliway.html Also, I wonder if Rescue Remedy might work? I know it sure works on hummingbirds! Long story, but I've used it twice on rescued hummers over the years. I read a book called Twisted Whiskers (and the sequel which I can't recall the name of right now)... the author claimed that some vets use rescue remedy on injured cats and after surgeries...etc. Bach's flower essences aren't cheap either, but probably less than you are paying for Feliway. This link has customer reviews: http://www.petco.com/product/10533/C...3-_-image_link I wish I had known about this, when Sheba died. Tippy never recovered from that loss, and died too on 1-3-11. It is interesting that cats do "kissy noses" as I call it, as a form of greeting. Must be checking out the pheromones? Maybe males are more in need of this than females? That would make sense to me too. I'd be interested as to whether this improvement continues or not. |
Wow, Dej, I hope this stuff works for good.:)

You think that would help a cat relax when aliens ( family members, children, etc) are in the house. My cat is so loving when it's just my DH and I but my grand kids come and she is a roaring lion.

I would go to Feliway.com and see the little video. REad the reviews on Amazon.com and check out petco.com for their reviews. Tons of folks are rating it 5 out of 5 stars. I have only seen 1 person write a 1 out of 5 star and she only gave it a couple of hours to work. I would get the spray, and at least several hours before the kids are due, spray the bedding and a couple of toys with the spray and allow the cat to get mellow before they arrive. yesterday Jack didnt even flinch when the Schwans guy drove up in the drive! normally once the guy turns onto our street JAck has run and hide and convinced the end of the world is here. He even stayed on the table in the sun when the guy knocked! I ordered a couple of collars with the stuff on it, so Jack can take it with him where ever he is and I dont have to worry about keeping his area sprayed or scented. Just make sure to allow it at least 15 minutes to dry. The alcohol smell is strong if you dont. |
I have two diffusers running in my home 24/7. I have one former feral kitty who is sensitive, especially when he sees other cats out the front window and one of my other cats began inappropriately urinating when I had chemo done in November. It really helps.

How's it working for Jack? Is he still relaxed and out of pain?

Today he is chirpy and happy, but still not his old self. They say this stuff can take up to 2 weeks to really work, so I am hopeful. I did buy him a collar soaked in it, and have sprayed his fav places, and plugged in the diffuser. This cat really has to get better for his quality of life to change. |
