Clinical Trial - Milnacipran

I have suffered from snf for about 5 years. Under control with Neurontin and Cymbalta, however starting to have memory loss. Rheumy thinks it may be from Neurontin. Have to go to neuro to see if I can dose down. Columbia University in NY is holding a clinical trial with the drup Milnacipran. ADA approved for Fibromyalgia and testing for help with non diabetic neuropathy. Finally a trial for non diabetic neuropathy. I am near nyc and called to enter. Does anyone know anything about this drug? I would love to get off neurontin.

Savalla seems to work fine for me with the least side effects. I have been on it for six or eight months - something like that and was prescribed it for SFN pain, FMS and rheumatological pain. It does seem to help elevate my mood as well. Is it a miracle drug? No - but I have found it to be the best of what is available to me.

All of the other meds I was prescribed - Neurontin, Lyrica, cymbalta (and others), gave me intolerable side effects.

I hope it works for you if you decide upon it.

If you search other forums here using the search function there are many threads. Most are not positive.

This drug can raise blood pressure in some patients.

Maybe not such a good drug for me either if it raises BP...

I've answered this on your other thread.

Hi! Just joined this group - I have had small nerve fiber PN for 11 years and have constant, chronic burning, stabbing pain 24/7. I've been on opioids for 10 years and have been disabled for the last 2 1/2 years due to opioid side effects. I have been contacted by Columbia University for the study you have mentioned. The drug they will be testing is Savella, which my doctors tell me is similar to Cymbalta, Effexor & Pristiq, which are SNRIs. One thing I have learned is that different things work for different people so if this trial is made available to you, by all means, take it. I've been on every drug you can imagine (starting with Neurontin 11 yrs. ago - didn't work for me, either). Being non-diabetic, none of the diabetic neuropathy drugs work for me. I am a former insurance exec with two kids. I desperately want to get back to work. If you decide to contact Columbia, you may have to call repeatedly until someone calls you back. Keep trying - don't give up. Good luck!
