Is this too much for me?
 

Since I'm home on medical leave I was expected to get a job- haven't really had one ever because of the mg. I got a job driving for a pizza company- at night. This is when I see double headlights etc. I am also taking a class- which is pretty intensive for a month or 2. I am already weak after 2 days of work- and I feel like I should just tough it out...but it's dangerous as my driving around is semi dangerous due to my eyes. I have infusions again starting Friday- maybe after that I will be stronger again- but I just feel like I should be focusing on myself and will re evaluate after a week or so depending on my strength.


Please give any advice u have- thanks.

Tyson, Not only is it too much for you, in my opinion, it's too much for the other people out there. Driving when MG is bad is like driving drunk. Response time is way down and, as you said, vision is worse.

I hope you can find a job that is less physically demanding. There must be something a young, talented and nice man could do, even with MG.

A person with poor judgement about their ability to drive safely is why I spent 10 days in ICU, endured 3 surgeries over 18 months, rehabed for forever and never got my full functionality back (and it happened 32 years ago)!! If you can't see well, you can't drive safely. Don't be so cavalier...it's not about what you want.

I agree it is too much- I just got to work and will respond in more detail once I get home.

Tyson the first thing I discovered when this dreaded disease hit me was I CAN'T DRIVE!!! I was not only endangering my life but others too. Haven't driven since Aug.

Yeah- i feel your pain on that aspect to some degree as Im limited at some points.

Yet its only at night, and then sometimes its not bad at all, so i continue driving. I wont have that taken away from me until I become a danger to those around me- I would know if i was, and tell myself.


Annie- I dont know i guess, i really need a job to keep me occupied while im home- due to hating Maine and the people in it for the majority. It also gives me money- saving up for an apartment in San Francisco:)

Im moving in May- woohoo.

I will tell myself if my body gets too tired. Yet im not too good at that, yet...as you know.


Infusions start again on friday- so I will be stronger soon.

Tyson, my opinion is that you should be careful working, epecially a job where you have to drive.

I have similar trouble...if I don't work, I start feeling like I can work again, and then when I do go back to work my MG symptoms get worse and worse until I can't work anymore. I've been going through this cycle of working and quiting since I got MG...I keep trying to work because I need the income. My conclusion is that I have very mild MG if I don't work and severe MG if I do. I prefer the mild MG by far.

I think that if you continue to take it easy you have a higher chance of ending up with a milder form of MG in the end. There must be another job that doesn't require driving and that requires only a little physical work.

I think it is smart to question whether this job is right for you (or any of us with MG).
