SSDI Mental Exam Cancelled? Why? This common?

Hi everybody. About two weeks ago my husband received a letter for a SSDI Mental exam in coming in March, but just today his case worker called and said the Mental Exam has been cancelled, I ask why, she said its not needed.

Should we be concerned? When I asked the status of the SSDI case, the case worker said still in review. And my husband applied for SSDI in Oct 2010.

My husband suffers from seizures, depression/anxiety and arthritis.

For what reasons would a mental exam be cancelled?

Thank you

I have never heard of this but apparently they have enough to decide your case. Fingers crossed for you Hope you get approved soon.

Thanks! Yeah I found that odd too. I'm hoping more respond here. Maybe this happened to others.

Yet if my husband was denied wouldnt have the case worker said so when i called and asked why was the mental exam cancelled?

Hi again! Does anyone else have an opinion on this? I'm the original poster here. As I said , my husbands Mental Exam was cancelled back in late Feb for a March Appt. I did call our case worker and the 800# on his status and nothing has changed.

Why would they say he doesnt need an exam, yet not give us a decison on his case? He applied in October 2010 for SSDI & SSI.

And finally, the person i spoke to from the SSDI 800# said at first that my husband might be in the status of Presumptive Disability? I did google that, but I dont understand if thats a positive or negative on his chances of winning for SSDI.

Thanks always!!!

Hope everybody is well.

What's going on with the seizues ? It sounds like there is something severe enough that he would qualify with the depression dx/need for a mental health exam.

You never know for sure until you get that approval letter

Thanks! My husband had a brain tumor removed from his temporal lobe a few yrs ago.Ever since the surgery he suffered from Temporal lobe seizures, but they were only once or twice a month. About 1 1/2 ago the seizures became a weekly thing. Then 3-4 seizures a week. He saw many top Neurologists and surgeons, they all picked up the seizures on EEG's and said this might be because of the scar tissue from surgery. My husbands primary doc did write a letter stating my husband should be on disability and is not able to work.

What worries me is that SSA cancelled the mental exam. And I still dont understand what - Presumptive Disability is?

Any info helps!

We are in Nevada. He didnt apply all that long ago, it was Oct 2010. And I do know that it usually takes 6-7 mnths to find out if one is denied or not, but when he recived the letter for a Mental exam ,I figured ok thats normal, but then ssa calls us and cancels his mental exam?

The case worker didnt give me a straight answer. She just said they are still working on his case. But when i called the ss 800# someone told me well his case is open but it looks as if he might be -Presumptive Disability. I asked what that is, he said, wait for now, his case is still open.

So basically im anxious and nervous! lol.

But if his case was on the way to SS for payment wouldnt our case worker have said so? Or wouldnt the SS 800 # know that?

Thanks to all, and I hope everyone is well.

Presumptive disability is a temporary approval that can be granted only in SSI claims since SSI recipients are, by definition, needy. It is a way of the DDS or the field office saying looks like you'll get an official approval so we'll go ahead and pay you now while waiting for a final decisions. It is good for six months. Presumptive decisions usually become favorable final decisions but occasionally, they turn into denials. A little awkward.

SSI only. No SSDI presumptive decisions.
