book recommendation

I'm reading Never Give Up: My Life and God's Mercy. http://www.amazon.com/Never-Give-Up-...9009308&sr=8-1 It's written (obviously) from a Christian point of view. The author has chronic Lyme, possibly fibromyalgia, and serious depression, including some severe spells of OCD. I'm finding it immensely encouraging, because it's about how to integrate the discouragement and depression that comes with chronic illness into your spiritual life (instead of believing that you can only have a spiritual life if you manage to overcome these states of mind).

I haven't read this book. I have to wonder if this person is getting properly diagnosed. I know that hope is the message but it sounds like this person might benefit from alternative therapy or, perhaps, better doctoring. Please let us know what you think after you're done reading it.
