post MVD question
Hello, I had an MVD procedure done 3 weeks ago. I am still on all the medicine that I was on pre-op. I am getting some mild TN pain. My neurosurgeon said this was due to the nerve being more irritatated than before the surgery. I, in my heart, think the surgery hasn't work. Has anyone experience this or heard of anyone who has experienced this?
Thanks for any help you can provide. |

MVD is brain surgery GIVE YOUR SELF TIME TO HEAL!!!!
Please let us know how everything turns out.I was not candidate for mvd or anything like that I wish I could help more but all I can do is give a hug and Tell you give things more time .:hug: this stickie from up top of the forum here may help you and if you need to contact Ella she left info on how to reach her at the end of the thread :) http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread2052.html |
Thank you, before I decided to have the MVD done, Ella's story was one that I read over and over! It was very nice to have a detailed account of what she went through! I am just praying that mine turns out as good as hers. All the success stories that I have read involve people coming out of surgery and being pain free. I haven't heard of any where they had pain, and then it ended up going away, but am trying to stay positive!
Thanks for the reply. |
You're freaking out a little early. If the compression has worn away at the myelin sheath protecting the nerve as mine did, you need to relax and give your body the time it needs to heal. You say you read my post MVD diary. You will see that it took a full three months for the myelin to regenerate. I know exactly the despair you are feeling every time you have a little twinge. It's devastating. I can only tell you that you are jumping the gun. Chances are your MVD worked fine. Afterall the success rate is in the high 90%. If your surgeon told you he found a compression and removed it, than hang on to that thought. He cured you. I know how devastating coming out of surgery and still feeling that monster can be. It's very early in your recovery. Relax and let your body do it's thing. You'll be fine. ;)

I also had the MVD done and I am now 9 weeks post op. Here is the best advice I can give you: RELAX :) !! I am only 22 years old so I thought I should be up and doing things fast but i was totally wrong! If i could go back I would have taken it a lot easier on myself then I did. I know it can be frustrating still having pain but it does take time .. I have even heard of people who it took a year to feel any relief from surgery. Stay positive it helps with the healing process! |
Thanks! It has been 5 weeks now, still having some twinges. My doctor is going to wait to even talk about taking me off of any medicine until I see him again in 3 weeks! I am trying to stay positive, but sometimes it is hard!
How are you doing post op? I hope it works for you, you are so young to be dealing with this horrible condition! |
