post disc surgery
 

My puppy Coco just had disc surgery and is showing movement in her back legs. She can walk but only with a wobble and she seems to be dragging her back legs. I know its only been a few hours since she's been out of the "pet hospital" but she just wants to lay. I've been trying to get her to walk a bit so she can get use to it but she stays in her doggie bed. Is this normal? Should I be worried? What can I do to help her walk normally again?

I appreciate any advice/suggestions. Thank you!

I think animals have a sense of what is best for therm to heal.
So give it some time as they are not always on the same time frame as us humans. :grouphug:

You say it's a few hours since she's been out of the hospital, but not how long since the surgery. It can take humans weeks to months to recover from spinal surgery completely, and we're usually pretty sore during convalescence.

If you have concern, give a call to the veterinarian.

Wow, the veterinarian should have given you complete instructions on the after care. My daughter's dachsund went down a couple of years ago and he had surgery. Alas, he never regained movement of his limbs except for the occasional spinal walking, which really isn't 'real' walking.

You really need to contact that vet about aftercare. I'm shocked they didn't say anything. My daughter had to be very careful at first.

They do require post-surgery therapy to regain the use of their legs.
