Getting EMG and NVC tests today. How badly does an EMG hurt?

I've had 2 cortisone shots in each foot as well as a nerve block shot in each foot (by podiatrist when we thought I had plantar fasciitis). Those were REALLY bad. I'm hoping the EMG isn't nearly as bad!

Of course everyone is going to be different. Some have compared the shocks to really strong static electricity like when rubbing your feet on a carpet and touching something grounded; others to a needle jab.

Whatever, it's not so bad as to spend any time worrying about it. It's quick, then it's over and done with.

ever touch your tongue to a 9 volt battery? it's pretty similar. i've had my arms and legs done enough times. the other part of the test feels like a pin prick. overall - slightly uncomfortable but tolerable.

It must be bit different for each of us, due to the MD/tech doing the testing & our own system or pain sensitivity.

Make sure to go to the bathroom before the test as a few of the zaps are are very quick but they are zingers.:o You don't want to have a full bladder...

I've had them to hurt like blazes, others I was barely aware. Must depend on the tech.

I have had 2 in the past year and while not comfortable they were tolerable.

the cortisone shots i got into the bottom of my feet were the most painful injections i have ever had, even worse then getting a shot in the roof of the mouth. the emg,ncs never phased me. i realize you have gone already, i hope it went well for you.

The injections in the feet really hurt. I've had 3 in my left foot over the years... and they were all very painful. One in the ankle and 2 in the ball of the foot over the years.

The needles for an EMG are thinner and don't go as deep.

I had EMGs in my arms when my hands were so bad during my pregnancy... it was nothing compared to the pain I had every day 24/7.

It must have been the Tech's for me because the 3 I had hurt like Hell. The worst part was the needles because the tech was stirring them in my muscles.
