SSDI favorable decision and contact time?
 

About how long does it take to be contacted/notified once you get a favorable decision from the SSDI doctor? For example once the SSDI medical consultant signs off an approval do they call you , send a letter? And how soon after the decision.

It all depends on the backlog in your state. If you are represented by an atty, ask him/her.

Under normal circumstances, you will be notified with-in 30-60 days by letter after the decision. Again, it all depends on the backlog in your state.

Correct me if I'm misunderstand but I believe a SSDI medical consultant does not have the last word, the SS judge does. At least that's the way I understand it. The consultant submits a report to the lawyer and judge. The judge then bases him/her judgement on evidence. My wife got a favorable report from a SSDI medical consultant. She received the report from her lawyer around 2 weeks later. About a month or two later her date to appear before the judge came in the mail. She did receive a very good judgement on the spot.

I didnt know that. We dont have an attorney to ask and I would like to know if there is a judge who makes the final decison?

You do not have to hire a lawyer, although in many cases it's a good idea to do so but not mandatory. How long ago did you file a claim?

not all that long, Oct 2010. But our case worker said a decison will be within a month or less.

Are you referring to SSI instead of SSDI? That might be the reason of confusion because their is a huge difference between the two.

SSDI for sure.
