why can't I just veg out and watch tv all day?

Am I alone here....My head feels so weird after watching tv (and everything else for that matter).

What would happen if I just sat for a long time watching tv? Would I get a killer headache? Would it last for days? OR

am I just running at the first sign of the tingling...AFRAID of the killer headache??

Can tv be that bad for me??

Sometimes there is just too much going on when you are watching TV. Even if it feels mindless, your brain is still processing and maybe getting overstimulated.

I tend to choose shows that don't have a lot of movement, flashing lights, or a lot of overlapping sounds.

I know what you mean about vegging out. It feels nice to just feel like you are relaxing, but your brain isn't.

Maybe just try little bits, and then have quiet. Or just listen to music or something that makes you feel calm.

Good luck

aireyden,

Have you tried watching TV with headphones on? I started by using TV ears. They are cordless and need batteries. There are some models that have rechargeable batteries. The headsets make it so I don't have background noise to confuse and exhaust my brain.

Radio Shack and other stores have TV Ears like sets. You can also buy them online. They cost about $25 to $30.

This may be a way you can watch TV and fill the boring empty time in the day.

I just looked them up on line... $99

my husband hooked up a long set of extensions so that he can watch tv in bed with me while I just lay there...(bored of course)...maybe I will try those.

Even when no one is in the house...I can't tolerate more than 15 mins of tv...so not sure this is my answer.

For me, watching TV is a problem because of the slight echos in the room. With the head phones, there are no echos.

I use head phones with a long wire to the back of the TV. I got tired of changing batteries on the cordless head phones.

I know the struggles you are talking of. In the beginning, I would flit around the house from one thing to the other trying to occupy my mind. I could not spend more than 15 to 30 minutes on any individual task or distraction.

My best to you.

I know it may sound boring but I like to watch shows I have already seen. I don't have to concentrate on the story line and I find it comforting.

Plus when I need to I just close my eyes and listen. Taking away the visual part helps.

so tv bothers you too??

We love the show Modern Family...hysterical...its on Wed nights. We have the first season on dvd...and each episode is only 22 mins (no commercials)...and if I need to I can stop and walk away a little.

But I MISS MY SHOWS!! I miss gray's anatomy, etc...but they're all on my que on tivo waiting for me to get better!!

I can't even stay on computer long...10 mins at a time. My MAC is in sleep mode more than I nap!!

I record all of my television shows. This allows me to pause and take a break from the TV every 10 minutes or so. It takes forever to watch shows like Grey's Anatomy, NCIS-LA, and such, but I find I do a lot better this way.

My husband has finally quit complaining about the breaks that I need when we watch shows together!

I like the humour. We don't see enough of that around here unfortunately. I'm glad you have a husband that supports you. Having loved ones makes all the difference in the world.
