Heard something interesting on the radi
 

Was listening to 700 WLW in Ohio that SSDI will run out of money in 4-6 years. This guy said that there was 125 billion paid out last year and it is only getting worse. They are also hiring more people to go after fraud. It was very interesting. They said they are also going to concentrate on the people going for disability claiming mental illness. Thats me. they are putting more pressures on judges on granting disability. Anyone hear this??

I just heard there is a link on the radio stations website. This will lead to the article I suppose. I think they said www.700wlw.com. There are now 10.2 million on disability. This was a scary interview. They said if something is not done very soon this program was dissolve.

I'd be happy to see them go after people for fraud.

If that means more reviews for the rest of us, I'll be nervous when it's my turn....and I wouldn't look forward to gethering the medical records again, but I refuse to lose sleep over that now. I know how my body feels and I know that I can't work.

Don't laugh at me, but my mom got me hooked on Judge Judy. I can't tell you how many times I've seen deadbeats on there who say they are disabled and then admit to working under the table at physical jobs like landscaping and carpentry. Doh !

I have an 'invisible' disability and I know not to judge just on how someone looks. I've had questions and snide comments from people who don't understand why I can't work because I 'look fine'. And I do look fine....once or twice a month when I take extra pain pills and get out to socialize. The rest of the month, I'm stuck in the house, in pain, often stuck in bed (so I can hoard pain pills for when I am able to go out), unwashed and in my jammies. I miss more social events than I can attend because of pain issues. People don't always understand if they see me out and about, it's on one of my good days, not one of my normal days......and certainly not one of my bad days !

It irritates me to no end that SS won't have enough money to pay us the rest of our lives as they should.....and some lazy people are abusing the system and taking money fraudulently.

One of the clowns on Judge Judy was on SSI because he had ADHD. So do I....it didn't stop me from being a good student, going to college, and working for 20 years before my body quit on me. If his ADHD was so bad that he couldn't work (which conceivably could happen if sx's were severe), why was his mental status 'good' enough for him to get married several times and have 3 different baby mommas ?

The system as it is is unsustainable.. by 2016 I believe they are going to be paying more in benefits that they take back in taxes. I haven't yet heard of the clamor to start slashing the disability rolls. I have heard of means testing and raising the retirement age as two possible solutions for Social Security.. Matter of fact I have only heard that they were thinking of cutting funds to SSA which would result in an even lengthier backlog.

If this were true, it would be all over the televised national & local news stations (especially FOX), front page news in ALL the newspapers & mentioned when the prez gives his televised to the peoples speeches on TV. :rolleyes:


In most states it takes 4-6 years just to get a denial, fully approval & ALJ hearing!

finz you and I are about in the same boat. I also take vicoden 10's . they really do not help my pain anymore as I have been on them for over 5 years. But I now take them because they give me a burst of energy/confidence to go out. Other wise I am depressed and stay in about all day. I will go to the stations website and see what I can dig up. But I am not making it up I heard the interview myself. They will be paying out quite a bit more than they are taking in and something will have to be done. Can you posts links on here in case I find it??

This is what I found on wlw's site. The host's name is doc Thompson so find his blog and it will lead to the article. Unfortunately it takes you to the Wall Street Journal. It will let you read a small portion of it because you have to subscribe to it. But if it is in that paper then it is legit. Not sure if we need to worry about it or not.

I don't see how SSA can prove fraud at all when it comes to Psychological illness/impediments, because that is purely subjective. Only the person claiming that he/she has the impediment can reasonably determine for theirselves whethere they are of the capacity to work, SSA can at best circumstancially guestimate. It's not like a physical impediment where it can legitamately be determined factually whether a subject can work or not. With that being said, if they start to become more stringent and start paring down the disability rolls I think a lot of us would be a little concerned

I could view the entire article. It was interesting. I'm sure there are other articles that are similar in opinion. However, just like the recent budget problems threatened a gov't shut down...they always seem to find a stop-gap measure to keep things going. i think the same will happen with SSDI.

the Wall St. Journal is a pro wall st financier, big business right wing newspaper owned by Rupert Murdoch who also owns Fox News, which favors big cuts in social security, medicare, medicaid, unemployment insurance, workers compensation etc. Anytime they report on anything to do with government programs they present those programs in the most dire, unfavorable light possible. Im sure there has been a drain on funds with the economy and im sure there is a certain political party that will use that to advocate for big cuts in anything but business subsidies, but i dont think the end of ssdi is near.
