Homemade Lotion...
I posted this a long time ago, but if you suffer from any problems with dry skin or peeling skin on the bottoms of my feet, like I do, this recipe is my little miracle worker. I have psoriasis on my knees and elbows and I keep it under control by using it at least four times a day.
In a large mixing bowl add 30 oz of baby lotion...Johnson and Johnson works best. I used the new vanilla scent today and smells wonderful. Add 13 oz. petroleum jelly. Finally, add 8 oz. of FRUIT OF THE EARTH VITAMIN E LOTION found at Wal-Mart in two four oz. containers....it's VERY important that you use this brand. Mix well with a mixer until creamy and smooth. Store the lotion in sealed containers. This makes what seems like a lot, but I also use it to take my makeup off besides using it on my my feet and psoriasis. :) |
I use Burt's Bees Thoroughly Therapeutic Honey and Shea Butter Body Butter for the really dry areas. It has done wonders for my skin. A little bit just smooths on and goes right in. My ex has terrible psoriasis and he is using it now too. (we are better friends than spouses  ) I have used so many different products over time! Including many of Burt's... But this stuff is great. At my local health food store they carry lots of Burt's products and before my discount it was $14.50 for a 6.6 ounce jar. But, you don't need much so it lasts forever. The other product I like I learned about from my ex. Eucerin Calming Itch Relief Cream. Sometimes my RSD hand and my RSD in my feet starts getting the creapy crawly itches and drives me nuts. This cream works well on it. I also like their regular Calming Cream.
When I get up the nerve to take a shower - OUCH!!! - I use Aveno Creamy Moisturizing Oil after I towel off. It sounds gross, since it is called oil, but its really not like oil when you put it on, more like a lotion. My elderly mom lives with me, and she started using this after trying mine, and now it's all she uses. I have always had skin that is touchy to many products. I have used some of the Fruit of the Earth products and done ok with most of them, but the baby lotion would probably break my skin out in hives. I can't use makeup, perfumes, soaps, shampoos that most can. I love the idea of your make your own moisturizer, but am offering these options for those who might have really sensitive skin. I use Vermont Castile soap cut half with water on face and body as well as shampoo. For face moisturizer, I use Burt's Beeswax Moisturizing Cream thinned with a little rosewater and glycerine. |
I never thought to make ones own product. Glad it works for you. I have seborehic dermititis(sorry about spelling) anyhow I was suggest vanicream and it helped. I have never been a fan of lotions cause of the slime and smell but this does not have it
