Here for a friend and looking for any help
My friend, Phyllis, had developed an infection in her brain shunt (bacterial meningitis). She recovered from the infection but lapsed into a coma and can't seem to wake all the way up. At least one doctor described her condition as an obstruction in the Aqueduct of Sylvius. (even though the MRIs don't show anything)
It took long enough for doctors to discover that she had hydrocephalus in the first place (they suspect from an attack during a violent robbery where she was struck on the head). She spent over a year going from one doctor to another as symptoms increased. When she was finally diagnosed and a shunt installed things were so much better for her until the infection. Her MRIs look good the doctors say. The ventricles are back to proper size but she's still in a coma and they have no idea what to do. They're considering starting her on Ritalin to see if that helps. Does anyone here have any thoughts or suggestions? Thank you so much for your time; we are grasping at straws these days and are reaching out to everyone in the hopes that there is an answer out there. v |
