scott hasn't had a huge problem with ocd, but just the past couple months hes developing new OCD habits.... is this normal? ok i dont like the word normal. i guess i mean is this unusual for a person who has had tourettes most of his life, and very few ocd habits to suddenly start developing them?

I don't think it sounds all that unusual. Depends what type of oc behaviour he's had in the past I guess. There is so much overlap between tics and oc behaviours that sometimes some people can't tell which is which. What sort of things has he suddenly started doing, goofy? I have to say too that both my children have OC issues, but not always as bad to be called OCD... meaning it isn't always too disruptive to their daily lives although quite obvious to others. Sometimes it is though. More so for my son when he was younger, moreso for my daughter now she's older. Some oc behaviours that they have are more anxiety driven than others. Some things like counting and evening up don't seem to have as much anxiety behind them as some of the germ problems etc... Let us know what's happening.

My son's OCD was very severe when he was 10-12yo ...now (17yo) it is real mild
(we used to use supplements to help boost serotonin, but dont even need them for him anymore)

My husband is late 50s and also has TS/OCD etc
He has noticed OCDs increasing lately, and has commented that he feels there have been phases throughout his life when they have definitely been higher than others, but they were mild for him as a young person

Whether it is something internal ("genetic",hormonal, biochemical) that cause the waxing of OCD or whether it is environmental (allergen, toxin, illness,etc) or the ubiquitous "stress and/or excitement" or a mix of many things....not sure....but certainly from our experience the increase you are seeing with Scott's OCD is not out of the "norm"

If you are interested, Inositol (one of the B vits) is a safe natural way to boost serotonin and is often effective for OCD. It seems the kind that has added vit B6 is optimal.
If Scott is on any meds (which I think he is, right?) then maybe still check with the doc first on whether Inositol is ok

Thanks guys... i have to take sis to school here in a bit, so just a quick post. Most of what we're seeing is stuff like him turning every bottle in the house upside down!!! Tapping the frame of the doorway 3 times before he goes through it,.....turning around in a circle before sitting down... Those are 3 of the ones i can think of right off the top of my head. Hes NEVER done this before. His ocd before was minor. like the way he would eat a sandwich, or counting the number of times he'd brush his teeth as he was brushing them. This turning the bottles upside down is driving his dad nuts LOl...I mean EVERY bottle of everything in our house has been turned upside down. Hi guys..... i'm not for sure what was going on with him, but things have settled down a BUNCH!!!!! I guess i dont understand ocd.... is it something you can control? i always thought it wasn't. The only thing hes doing now is still turning bottles upside down LOl... I have to admit its kind of funny. I opened my refrigerator this morning and almost every bottle and jars in there was turned upside down. I have no idea when he did this.... i just left them alone. i figured if it bothers him that bad for them to be right side up, and its not leaking or something then why not have the bottles upside down LOl....:grouphug:

Chemar, Scott is taking clonodine, but only at night. he says it helps him sleep.
His birthday is Sunday.... i cant believe hes going to be 17..... sigh.........:heartthrob:
