My good deed for the day...
A very nice lady stopped in fron of my house while I was outside today to explain that her mother and father used to own our house, they were the ones that had it built (we are currently renting from the people they sold it to). Her mom and dad moved to Tennesee. Her father passed away and the family was in town for the funeral in Arlington. Her mother wanted to drive by and see the old neighborhood.
And then the strange request. The pretty tree out back that my daughter likes to climb, the one with the gorgeous pink blossoms on it this time of year, the husband planted this tree for his wife the day they moved into the house. The daughter asked if I would mind too terribly if her mother could cut a piece from my tree so that she may take it home to Tennessee and plant it in their yard. It was very sweet. I happily obliged by taking her mother around back and cutting off 3 branches for her. I gave her two for her yard in case the first one didn't make it and one for her daughter. They were both very nice ladies. We spoke for a long while. DD told them all about the climbing tree and how she likes to sit in it an think. The mom and I talked about the good old days and I told her that DH2B was in the Army and performed the military funerals in Arlington and that is how we ended up moving to this area, it was our halfway point. I told her we were only renting the house and that we would soon be moving into a house of our own with more room since his DD is coming to live with us and we need more space. We talked about children and husbands and the military. They both hugged me and we all teared up as they thanked me and we said our goodbyes. There my good deed is done for the day. PS-> I think I will take a piece of that tree with me when we move to plant at our new house. http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4665589_n.jpg |
Its kind of funny the timing of all of this. That tree is gorgeous when it blooms. And it only lasts for about a week. Then the pink all falls off and makes a heck of a mess all over the yard, but they came at just the right time to see the blooms.

That is so sweet. She will remember you forever. Yes, you better take part of that tree with you

Awwwwww, sweet!!!:) |
Love the story!
Sniff.....sniff.....somebody hand me a tissue....
Yes, please, take a piece of the tree to your new house....it all has history now. Bless you for being so kind to the visitors. My dad asked me to drive him past "the old neighborhood" before he died and the new occupants of the old homestead were equally as kind. We really appreciated it and I'm so glad you did the same. You'd be surprised how much it means to someone. |
so sweet.
We rented in SF for many years and when we moved the landlady gave us her jade plants. We planted them in the next rental and lived there 5 years. We took clippings from that when we bought our first house and again took clippings from that when we moved to our current home. We have taken special memories from all of our previous homes, and have left a living memory of us at each one. It is a very neat thing to have done. |
They were really sweet. I was glad to help her take home a token of her husband.
Man, what a day. This day has been a yo yo. That was the best part of my day though. |
