Terrific nerve pain
 

I have sciatica from lumbar disc pressure with terrific pain down my right leg and feet. Pain killers don't help. My doc is talking about an operation but I'd rather not. My cousin who suffers for years from diabetes with nerve pain told me she is taking Neurofencine with wonderful results. She says I should try it. This supplement contains g-agmatine. Does anybody have more information? I am desperate for a solution!

Sorry to hear you are in so much pain, nerve pain really can't be controlled completely with narcotics, but usually can make you comfortable. I took lyrica for a while before my surgery to try to get relief, it's in that same family of drugs I think as your neurofencine, the one thing you should research is the side effects. I did not do well on it, swelled up like a balloon and my joints started to hurt so bad I couldn't climb the stairs to my bedroom. Once I stopped the lyrica those symptoms cleared up.

If your dr is recommending surgery explore all your options carefully, but there usually isn't a quick fix no matter what route you choose. If you decide on surgery, there are some wonderful threads on here to read and learn all about it, great, practical advice.

ACDF surgery on march 2, 2011 - C5, C6, C7 with titanium disc & screws with cadaver bone... On my road to recovery:winky:

I had pressure on my spinal nerve from discs etc and had a spinal decompression op. four years ago. Nerve pain had been evident for some years but had taken a sudden turn for the worse, in addition my walking ability simultaneously deteriorated and bowel control became problematic.

Operation was successful only to a limited degree, no improvement in pain or mobility, though thankfully, bowel control restored. Problem is that spinal nerve had sustained damage now myelomalacia (softening) and spinal cord has little or no ability to repair itself.

I've tried all the recommended drugs for nerve pain but to no avail.

Perhaps it might be useful to ask if there is a risk of permanent damage to nerves in your case?

The only thing I can contribute is that when I had relentless sciatica, I took voltaren which reduced swelling on the disc just enough to offer a bit of respite to the nerve. Also I had a physio who stretched my bad leg with an elastic band to stretch the nerve. I forget what its called but it always made me feel better.
