MIL is here! eeek!

I have really been looking forward to her visit, and now that she is here I am wondering..."what have I done?!" she is sooo sweet, and will be easy, but my MS anxiety is kicking into high gear. I am sure she doesnt want to sit and watch TV all day with me, or watch me check my email. As you have no doubt heard we are in the boonies and there isnt much up here. its still cold and dark too, so we cant even go for a nice walk. My italian is rusty rusty rusty!

I rented netflix italian movies. (she said she likes american movies) we watched eat pray love. She couldnt follow it past the italian part...so, she went to bed.

Ideas? suggestions? im freaking out! I know its MS that is freaking me out, I can feel that I am completly over tired, and run down from out trip south and dealing with all of the relatives that we were surrounded by.

Im off to make a nice breakfast for everyone. and take a xanax.

Dej, she might possibly feel the same way. I know if I were in someone else's home and didn't speak the language I'd feel out of place. I take it DH is there, too. Let him be in charge of making plans to keep her entertained. She'd probably be happy with just spending quiet time with the two of you. Does she like to cook? Maybe spend an afternoon making an authentic Italian supper. :)

she speaks enough english and I speak enough italian that we can understand each other, but its just strange for both of us. She said she LOVED the bed. soft, warm and nice. her own mattress is about 45 years old and in bad shape. We have been trying to convince her to get a new one. She said she normally wakes up alot but last night was out light a fish. (do fish sleep?) any way a good nights sleep is a great start. We are headed out to breakfast and some light shopping in the big city. ITs RAINING! Cant we catch a break on weather? She is in good spirits and really is so sweet. Im sure it will be fine.

Cooking is a great idea! she did something with burning olives and hot pepper flakes like night. Burnt the heckpie out of my good pan, but I will throw it out if we cant clean it. I was thrilled to see her comfy enough to want to cook. DH is here, but he keeps looking at me! "what should we do?! " UGH! boys! are they all like this? its HIS momma!

Ok, breathe! just breathe. nice lady and easy to please. I can do this! I just dont have good experiences since my own mum is nuts, jealous, suspcious, and quick tempered. Actually my own mum heard about this visit and threatened to come up to visit NOW! she is quite jealous. I didnt get real momma love growing up, and dont know how nomal relations go, so im flying blind here. How silly am i?

it will be fine it will be fine, it will be fine. breathe, breathe, breathe.

I keep thinking of how I feel now....at age 50.....more like 80! So, if she is older she probably wants some downtime, too.

Do you have any old pictures in a box that need going through? Maybe look through them with her and let her tell you about what she remembers about them. Maybe even start a scrapbook of them. You could keep it to work on each time she is there. :)

Answer:Yes fish sleep. But it’s not sleep as we know it. They don’t have eyelids to close, they sometimes do it during the day, they don’t show the characteristic brainwave patterns like REM sleep seen in humans, and some, including most sharks have to keep swimming in their sleep.
Just relax and go with the flow (pardon the pun). If you're anxious, you'll make her anxious too. Have a ball..:hug:

Cooking is a great idea. Don't know about you, but I LOVE ME SOME PASTA!! Along the lines of scrapbooking which is also a great idea, how about making a recipe book to go with the yummy food? Something you can copy and give to the kids?

I don't know about your MIL but what about a trip to the craft store? Maybe you can find something you can work on together or a puzzle or something she can work on when you aren't feeling so hot and just need a break?

I ordered the Italian channel from Comcast. She can watch the Royal Wedding in italian on Friday. The comcast lady said the italian channel would only play on the HD DVR box (which was in MY room) so I spent alot of time and switched the boxes around. put the HD box in the living room...when I got them all switched DH said "Hey! i get the italian channel in my bedroom!" URGh! so, sure enough the buzy bubble headed comcast tech LIED! I lost my HD box to the main room again. Its ok, it can stay there till mom goes home. Got some errands done, and managed to drop off the broken computer that I cant fix. it was a wire that led to the CD drive, which I never would have figured out. They arranged the BIOS to find it and did things I wouldnt have done. So I can pick it up later.

I have mom and son making their own lunch. They are making a huge mess in the kitchen, but I am sure DH will clean it up. They both do so many things alike and I think he is happy to have momma food around.

She is quite sweet, and I am trying to not let my anxiety over run me. I am trying to stay a bit out of the way while those two wobble over each other. I guess I dont have to orchestrate everything, do l?

its going well. its me thats a wreck. My own mum has called 6 times so far. I have stopped answering her calls, and set the ring tone to silent when it sees her number. it rings once, and goes silent. no need to look. I know she is seeting that mil is here, and she isnt. no message from her, so it cant be important.
