Beautiful! :) My Mom used to grow the purple irises.
|
Gorgeous! My neighbor thinned hers out two years ago and gave me some...they were beautiful, but short-lived last spring.

Wow, they are beautiful!
Do you have any tricks for the borer? Besides cutting them back and removing foliage? |

Any product containing the above, dusted on the clumps in the spring will take care of any borer problem. Otherwise I am very fussy about keeping debris away from the rhizomes so the pests don't have anywhere to over-winter. When I divide the rhizomes, I am also careful to discard anything that looks suspicious. So far I have not had a borer problem! Last year when I divided up my Hybrid iris plants, I actually sold some rhizomes on Ebay and made nearly $1000! However; I know the formal names of all my plants. This year I am in a new home and brought with me most of my plants....they will need a couple years to get more mature. Iris are short lived, but I believe one of God's most beautiful flowers. You can bet the traffic would slow around my house when all my Iris are in bloom! Its a hobby that I enjoy!! These photos are just a smidge of what I have! |
Beautiful. I have purple, white and yellow Irises that come up every year.:)

MIL is outside triming and loving my badly neglected roses. she is so happy to have flowers to care for. Im happy to give her happy work.

Karilann, your Iris' are gorgeous. I love the deep purple ones. My folks always had them. As a kid I thought they were Orchids. :)

Beautiful! I grew up with a yard full of Iris'. My mom would find rhizomes at old abandoned house sites and lug those things home. We had purple, white and yellow ones. They have been neglected the past 10 yrs and are not as thickly populated as they once were.
There are a few purple/yellow mix in my front beds. A new neighbor did not want the 200 plants left behind by their old homeowner...who was a certified master-gardener... She gave me 10 "clumps" of rhizomes. They are all white with ruffled deep purple or light lavender around the edges of the flower. SO pretty and this year each stem has at least 4 flowers. |
Your flowers are simply beautiful!!! thanks so much for posting the pics!
