56 year old male
 

i am 56 and have been on ss disability since 2007....i was told in a letter i would be reviewed after 3 years..it has been 4 years and they still have not contacted me. could it possibly be that i will not be reviewed because of my age? i called about a year ago when it was 3 year anniversary and mentioned to them that i was past due for my review. after looking at my chart the woman said you have no review scheduled....did not want to push it and said thank you......could they just have decided that considering my age they are not going to review me...has anyone been reviewd at 56 or older? thanks for any info you can share

I am 56 and been on disability since 2007 with a possible review in 5 to 7 yrs. Its good to hear that you haven't got one scheduled. I'm guessing we might get reviewed maybe one time with the possibility of never getting reviewed. Keep going to your dr(s), save medical records and keep taking your meds. Us older folks aren't priority one with the review board so I wouldn't sweat it.

i hope you are right that we are not priority one .......would just love to hear from more older guys and gals who are in similar places as we are, if they have ever been reviewed between 55 and 59...i know that they have grids that apply for our age group but not sure what that means.....

my pdoc said that everyone gets reviewed at some point. They are most likely backloged.

I am in the 5-7 year review.

From my paperwork when I was initially approved, it states as you get close to your "normal" retirement age (which depends on the year of your birth) for "regular social security," you will get a letter asking which one you want - SSDI or SS.
SSDI is a higher amount of $$$ than "regular" SS. So guess which one I will pick? :wink:

I'm 45 years old and in the 3 year review time frame so I'm sure that I'll get my review letter when it's due. One thing is for sure, if they are as backlogged in reviews as they are in hearings I won't be giving them a call about mine. I'll just wait until they contact me.

Mz Migraine, what I was told by the woman who helped me at my local SS office with my claim is a little different than what you posted, so I looked it up on the SS website.

now I am not sure if she told me correctly. She told me that at retirement, the SSDI converts over to SS, and the amount remains the same. When I read this web page, it sort of sounds like it depends on the year you were born - which determines "Full Retirement Age." I was born in 1958, so I would be full retirement age at 66 and 8 months. Now, if they threaten to take away SSDI before then, say at age 62, and I opt for SS, my benefit would be reduced by 30%.
