I'm Technologically Challenged

I'm technologically challenged. My own fault, I admit. But I just can't seem to want to be any more advanced than I already am. I don't own a "smart phone" or a Kindle or an iPad. I don't text. The only thing I do that is the least bit "now" is surf the Internet. I do bank and shop online but that's out of necessity. :o I feel like a dinosaur! But, I really don't want all this stuff. I like holding a real book, turning the pages and using my bookmark to save my place. I like being able to log off the computer and not feel like I have to check my Facebook status, my email and/or my messages on my phone. Am I getting old? :p

Don't feel bad, Kelly...I don't have any of that stuff either. Closest I came was a pay as you go $10 cell phone I kept in the car for emergencies when driving to & from Minneapolis for neuro appts, Ty infusions, etc...The trouble with Smart Phones is that it requires a Smart User, and that ship sailed awhile back...Besides, I never liked the idea of being that easy to reach at all times. I do have a FaceBook page, and lots of friends that I keep in touch with, but I don't obsess about it...usually. :D

You are not too big of a dinosaur..just a small one!:D Me, I'm the techno rhino.. charging right on through! I would be lost without my computer. We have had one in the house since 1982. ETA: Although life without one was nice while we had no power after the tornados.

I only use Facebook for music artists and "liking" stores. I do Twitter, but again it's only for American Idol fans and a few artists I follow.

My cell phone is a simple shared minutes family plan, but no data plan. I do text DH, my brothers and sis-in-law often... and apparently now my neighbor:cool: She just sent a Happy Mothers Day message!

I do want an I-pad. I have a 64gig I-pod Touch and I love it's features. Reading books on a larger screen would be nice. DH loves his Kindle and so do I because it means no more added clutter to his already extremely large/over-flowing:eek: book collection!:D

Yep, I embrace technology in any way that makes my life easier!

No problem here! We just got our first flat screen TV 2mos ago... our first DVD player about 5 yrs ago, and we still have our "candy bar" Nokias, which do nothing but talk. We have only one TV 32 inch in the living room. The cable guy was surprised when we had him out here last year...no other TVs..??? unheard of.

I do have a digital camera now, and a MP3 player and 2 laptops, but one has Win 7 on it and I can't really get into it.

We still have records on vinyl that hubby plays occasionally.

We still read real books, and don't have any "smart" thingeys.
And I check things out of a real library.

UpNorth we don't even have a bathroom! Only outside! No electricity (except a small 2500 watt generator) and only propane refrig and stove.

Ooooh...Vinyl records! I have lots of those from when I was working in radio. Didn't make a lot of money, but we got "all the vinyl we could eat"...When we first started switching to CDs, we got those, too. Now, they're all digital. What fun is that? I still play the vinyl. Even my son likes the "antique stereo" when he comes home. :D

I'm a late bloomer, myself..:D:p.. Didn't have a PC until I was 62, a cell phone till 60, a color TV or C/A till 35, a Kindle and a FB account till 70. I still don't have nor do I want smart phone or IPad (although an IPad looks like fun)

See, old has nuttin to do with it, Kell.

I love my vinyl records! I still play them often and still pick them up at thrift stores! :D Would buy new music on vinyl, if it wasn't so expensive! lol

I'm a techno junkie but I don't expect others to be the same. I have to admit that it is convenient to lay back in my chair with my Xoom tablet in my lap to go about my online activities.

As long as you are ok with what you have, you don't need anything else. Don't let pushy salespeople (or friends) tell you otherwise unless you really think it will make your life more enjoyable.

I have to tell you that I am very successful in selling technology to people of all ages, even those in their 80s. When you learn about how easy and convenient these devices really are, it helps to let you see how they make your life easier and more enjoyable.

But I still enjoy my used paperback books at bedtime. :)

I have a TracPhone that has the capability of sending a text message but it takes me several minutes to even figure out how to say and send the word yes! It amazes me whn my kids find and do things on my computer that I never knew and would never be able to recreate. My techy SIL is anxious to get ahld of my Nook. I'm sure he will find many things to do on it that I never knew was on it and may find me some free apps that I really don't need. I enjoy reading on it and the 'read to me' books for kids is just great. Even I enjoy reading them.

I hop I never have to give up my cable and DVR. I have no idea how to operate my DH VCR and DVD player.

I have an 8 track player with tapes. :o
