Pain pump trial complete need advice

Hi everyone, I said I would never do it - my neuro doesn't want me to because he feels the surgery any surgery will make my RSD even worse - I honestly don't know how that would be possible.1tis so bad - pre coma status . I have been offered the coma again but am too afraid to go again - last time was just too close.
What I need your advice on is which pump and should a pain management doctor be doing the surgery. I'm concerned ( one-that he has even done it before ) and two because of how brutal he was to me during the trial. Briefly they could not get a vein for the iv he pretended he got the meds in and started the procedure - u can guess the rest he was screaming for me to shut up he lost his temper exploded etc horrible - I trusted this man up until now - how will he react to my pain following the surgery? See why I am so worried. My neuro told me my post op pain must be controlled or my body will reject this as it did my port in 05.
I can not find anyone else in Orlando who does the surgery - also very few people fill them afterwards -my pm said if he does not do the surgery he wll not fill it
I just can't believe everything remains so difficult! please any advice knowledge about the surgery or pain after in abdomen and any ideas on doctors in Orlando and any one know who will fill these after?

I left out the best part after the horribly painful procedure the trial worked! I was 100%pain free for 20 hours!! I cannot wait to get the pump

With my oral meds I always still have so much pain like the monster is just under the surface still attacking I never go below a 6- after the trial I felt like a normal person for twenty hours- no pain at all none under the surface it was amazing but it came back with a vengeance -

Thanks for readig all this I hope you can help sincerely cz

Hey

Hey CZ

I would definatley not use a doc who screams at you!! You should not have to endure that...There has to be someone who can do it..When I was considering the pump the pain mgt doc was going to do it but I wasn't sure if that was the best option either. I am so happy it worked for you!! What meds are in it?? Do you see my lastest post. Looks like I don't have RSD afterall...maybe. I am going for IVIG therapy next month....Maybe Dr Kirpatric or whatever his name is can recommend someone?

Hi CZ, I saw a pain dr./Orthopaedic surgeon at leasr 5-6 yrs. ago in Orlando for a second opinion, I believe his name is Dr. Urrichio, maybe he can help you. I'm sorry I don't even remember his first name, I do know that he knows Dr. S. I hope this helps a little.

I'm so glad to have helped, it's even better that you have already seen him. He should be able to point you in the right direction, I would definetly tell him your experience with the other Dr.

Hi , I'm Mary and I used to be on here all the time. I had the pump implanted in Jan 2010, and I love it. I am almost pain free. I have my pump on the right side of my back, just about at the waist. I have a horse farm and I havne't been able to ride since I got rsd about 6 years ago. Well, once I healed, and the weather got better, I decided to get back on one of my boys. Well, It wasn't gracefull or anything, but i did it. I had 2 scs units implanted before the pump and the trial worked pretty good, but the perm unit didn't. well after the last scs was implanted, and I developed MRSA and ended up in a nursing home, I swore i would just live my life on drugs. Couldn't find a dr. in this area (Va) that would do it. Well, after a year I decided that living in a foggy head wasn't going to work. I was watching life pass me by and I couldn't join in. So I found a dr in another state, Md, and drove up to see him. He reviewed all my records and decided that a pump should be implanted. Well, I had the trial, 5 days in the hopsital. Thank heavens I was in the hospital as I had no idea I was deathly allergic to morphine. Well, I was, and as soon as we discovered that I was so sick I was going to lose it, they switched me to duladid. that was wonderful. It really worked well. SO then I had the perm implanted. stayed in hospital for a day to make sure everything was fine. It was. I've now had it for a year and 6 months, and I am almost pain free. I do have flairs and sometimes I take BT meds and take it easy. But the reason I have flairs is that sometimes I forget that I can't do things and really get carried away. One big reason drs. don't like the pump, (IMHO) is that with the scs, the dr. puts it in and turns you over to the scs rep. with the pump, you are seen quite often by the dr. You will have a relationship with the dr for the rest of your life. Most drs would rather put the scs in and get paid. and be done with it. I now go see him about every 2-3 months for a refill or maybe an adjustment to the pump. Every day I have gotten better and better. I hope I'm getting a new part time job. should know this coming week. I'm back to living my life again. All I can say, is keep looking for a dr who is open minded about things. My dr does both scs and pump. Fine one that will try both Some drs will try both trials on you to see which one works the best. I just hope you can find someone in Orlando to help you. It is wonderful and I love having my life back.

Mary

I'm now on pump #2

After living with a morphine pump for over 7 years, I can't believe just how much of a difference they make. When my battery died on #1 after 5 1/2 years I had to go without the pump for a few months because of other rather invasive surgeries that were taking place at the time. Those 3 months without this rather sizable device were horrible yet once we got the 2nd one turned on I too have been blessed with remarkable pain management. It's not a panacea, and you might even find yourself still taking oral narcotics like I am, but these things really do work.

Congratulations! The best days are really ahead! Bob.
