Who has bought a new car recently?

Went to pick up my new car and got sat down for a video presentation on options that "used to be included" and/or consumers ended up paying for twice from unscrupulous dealerships and now apparently are mandatory that they are sold entirely separate.

Things like the paint sealant, rust proof undercoating, environmental paint protection, corrosion protection etc.

Any clue as to what if any of these are worth shelling out the extra $500 for?

HELP! :)

undercoating or sealant for rust is UN needed for most cars. its simply not something I would seek or pay $500 for unless I was keeping this car for the next 20 years. most of us keep our cars about 5 years or less and we move on. The way cars are made with better material its not needed anyway.

If you are going to shell out for things, make it a satelitte radio or a GPS system or upgrade the stereo. Dont worry about floor mats that have GMC written across them. Floor mats are cheap at most outlets. Dont worry about scotch guard for the seats, and carpets. $500 is silly when you can get a $20 can and do it yourself.

Refuse to pay dealer stocking fees or lot fees. Those are complete nonsense.

I won't buy anything that expensive again, unless I can put a house number on it.:D

Good luck Jules.:)

We bought a new car a few months ago and they offered us all sorts of extras too, at additional cost. Our salesman was really good though. He said he had to ask about the extras but suggested that if there was anything we particularly wanted, then to wait a bit and get them added at a speciality place where it would be heaps cheaper.

The only extra we decided on was having a tow bar fitted so hubby can tow a trailor. It was going to cost $1200 to have it factory fitted, and it's costing us $500 at a local dealership.

When you pick up your car you'll see in the manual that many of the things they suggest you add are actually already there, just to a lessor extent.

useless- all designed to improve the bottom line of the dealer.
