OUCH!!!!! Can an injury cause symptoms?

Ok, so finally I was starting to feel better. The numbness and pain was starting to go away. My taste buds are still on "vacation" I can only taste salt and spicy.

This morning I open the slider, the handle breaks and a screw goes into my finger!!!!!!! Immediately I had pain shooting up my arm, shoulder neck, head, back, etc. And now numbness in my face, mouth etc.

Did this stupid accident really cause my MS or Fibromyalgia to reappear?

Do i need a tenus shot? Do I need to call my neuro? Family doc? Should I see if symptoms persist?

GRRRRR!!!!!! I so annoyed.

Thanks,
MM

Yes, it does seem like an injury can cause symptoms. It has been suggested that a severe injury can even cause you to have a relapse. I'm not sure if it is the actual injury that causes it or the stress involved. I am pretty sure that if you have not had a tetanus shot in the past ten years you should probably get one. Call your pcp and ask.

which finger did you hurt? How did the screw go into your finger? Did it slice it, or did it go straight in?

My aunt was bitten once on the tip of her middle finger. (she was plucking hair out of her cat, and the cat bit her...wouldnt you? Not sure why she was plucking the cat)

Within hours she had a bacterial infection in her arm. She nearly lost the arm...if she hadnt gone to the hospital when she did (6hrs or more later) It damaged the nerves in her hand and arm. Pain went from her middle finger up to her shoulder and caused her pain in the neck and jaw.

It took her months to recover. She had to have the original bite injury cut open and cleaned, and they had to cut her arm open from the wrist to elbow to clean out infection there. (or so I was told. I didnt look at it when she offered to show me...eewww) Pretty sure she had to do a ton of physical therapy to get her hand and arm back in working order.

She got rid of the cat (dont worry, she didnt hurt it, she gave it to a friend who loves the thing)

I wonder if the screw that went into your finger hit a nerve...you might want to call your regular doctor or your neuro and see if you can be seen today.

Right index finger!!! Well, it almost sliced off a big chunk of skin. Lots of blood. I washed it out, put the skin back, applied ointment and a band aid.

Plucking ear hair from a cat? What/Which hair? Was it a really furry long haired cat? Ok, I was a groomer and I have plucked many dog ears...but a cat? Hmmmmm.

So i called the family doctor and was told to come in for a tetnus shot. Called the neuro and ofcourse did not get a call back.

The cat was a...Himalayan? I think...

Her name was Schnookums. She was a gift to my uncle for his birthday...about a week before he died. My aunt used to pluck Schnook's hair that was clumping up or something...not sure. I'm not a cat person, so I dont know anything about cats and cat hair...except that I'm allergic to cat hair.

Maybe you didnt hit a nerve head on with it, but the pain and swelling might be irritating the nerve and sending some funky signals up your arm.

This isnt exactly the same, but the last time I had a Hangnail From Hell on the side of my middle finger, the pain from that shot up my arm and kept me from doing much for about a day...so maybe your pain is referring up the arm.

You said you have fibro? I dont know much about that, but could your finger be a trigger point? (again, I dont know much about fibro and exactly what the trigger points do)

ouch, i can feel your pain.
i don't think fibro can cause some of the sx's you describe. if they persist i'd check with your neuro, as in appt since they don't call you back.

just make sure your finger doesn't get infected. it's good you went to your dr.

let us know how you are.

I mentioned the injury to my aunt that hurt her finger, she's also a nurse practitioner, and she thought you either hurt or cut the nerve in your finger, or the cut is close to it and the swelling is irritating it.

Hope it's not that bad and it heals soon!
