To Doc John & DL....And anyone who wants BT's better
I for one, have always and will always appreciate ALL your efforts. I get the feeling that many participants have/are venting frustrations for the lack of any reasonable forum to be a 'member of a community'. Like all communities, they sure do have their foibles. Because of an 'outlet lack', lots of foibles/frustrations had built up....and you all were IT!
Also, as a new, alternative site...some banned folks were able to voice their opinions...something most either ignored or complained to mods about. I don't know nor care about what they were so strident about got them that way. I for one, can contribute in planning, board development, fundraising and long & short term planning strategies, It's easy for me, and I can make it relatively painless for board members and any committees you choose to establish...other that just getting things 'up & running' and the day to day. Soo, I challenge you all to one-liner LIST what kinds of time/effort YOU can give to making the whole shebang better! Nuff said? List your 'gifts/skills' and lets all see where what needs to be done, wants to be done and CAN be done all dovetail! - j |
Not sure why this was directed at me, since I am in no way, shape or form involved in any BT politics, internal or otherwise. I just saw no update from JL about the situation for a month, so I decided to take action to fill as a stopgap solution while he was working on things.
BT's forums appear to be on a host by the name of L0pht Heavy Industries and run on a single Max OS X server. I don't know the capabilities of either, so I leave that to the experts like JL. |
Doc John, in no way was this ...
meant to affront you or anyone involved with BT2 OR BT.
The fact that folks are complaining can be turned into a constructive direction by getting the main kvetchers to put up or shut up. Many of us have brains tho no brawn and have time and abilities that are untapped, factors that could be of use in the long term to establish BT as the truly recognized facility it deserves to be. Things like getting the recognition from docs that it should get. From the medical & research communities that it should have. Not to mention us users. There are lots of folks here who either know people or know where to find people who can contribute financially, technically in stabilizing and assuring the continuance of this resource in a manner that doesn't take away from other pressing medical research or treatments. I certainly am not the only one to say to you...you have my heartfelt thanks - j |
Here's an example
dahlek;
Hello and glad to see your name again. I just wanted to mention that what was happening on Braintalk was amazing to people. Abount six months ago, I told my therapist how much BT meant to me and helped me when I was frustrated at my pain or tired of being tired. When I told him the number of people who utilized the site, I don't think he believed me. That night, he logged on and signed up. And then he began suggesting the site to his patients, and we were all bummed out when it went "poof". The drug manufacturers would have been smart to read about their products on BT, the doctors would find out for sure how chronic pain patients feel or all patients for that matter. It was full of information for everyone. Anyway, just wanted to pass along my little story and "no", I'm not ready to volunteer for anything at this point. :p Have fun! nancy-h |
