Recipe Conversion
Hello All: I found a site on the internet that converts measurements. It is called GormetSleuth.com.
Artist: This morning I made a small batch of scones using your recipe. They are great! Regards, Lil |
absolutely wonderful to have this!....can't thank u enough...doing my own conversions has to led only to ample garbage!
bookmarking it right now!...thx again! liz |
Hi Lil! Hi Liz!
Yes, this is a really handy site, thank you....after so many years I finally got myself a measuring jug with both UK and US measures marked on it. You have no idea how baffling a "cup" measure is....a teacup, a mug, a big or small cup?? - For those of us not from the US, you'll know what I mean. Anyway, I finally know now, (thinks..thanks to my new jug...) And the answer is, quite a big cup. So pleased the scones came out OK, it is a good recipe that one, even when I do something clutzy, they're always at least edible! all the best! |
Excsuuuuuuuuse Me Ladies!!!!
Whats a scone anyway!!!!

Hello Mark: The best description I can come up with is it is somthing like a sweet biscuit. Hope this helps. Lil

Hi, what a funny coincidence!
I've been meaning to ask - what's an American biscuit?? - been to the US a few times and never tried one, but they pop up in films all the time. A UK biscuit = cookie. Mark, there's nothing really similar to a scone. But try to imagine a very light soda bread - can be sweet or savoury...google images will get you a pic. Are you in Maine right now? Take care, lots of virtual hugs and scones, all the best :) |
Hi Artist! An American biscuit is just like a scone, EXCEPT no sugar or dried fruits in them! Maybe a little differently shaped though, at times, depending on the baker's "mood"!
They are usually served hot or warm, with butter; in the South, they are FAMOUS for "Biscuits and Gravy"...the gravy usually being a white gravy. And, like scones, they can have cheese or herbs in them. Very Yummy! Hope you get to try them!!!:D (Follow your scone recipe, but leave out the sugar--and you will have a Biscuit!) Brokenwings |
