Thank you!

I really appreciated all the help. I have sound, I have Chrome. :D
Mr.Alffe finally threw in the towel...3 was impossible to install on this old computer of mine no matter what he did or windows said.

And Jo, he was able to move all my stuff, thank you! Now I need to go to the SOS forum and listen to whatever DMACK posted there. :grouphug:

Excellent news!

Maybe sp3 wouldn't download because you didn't have sp2. LOL :)

Just kidding.

If you cannot get SP3.... that is a problem encountered by many people when that fix was sent out.

What happened is this:
Many legitimate computer companies (and I won't name them now), offered Windows on their machines, just like all of them do.
What happened was that a pirated version was sold to some of them, and they bought it. By being pirated (which they didn't know), it wasn't discovered until the SP3 pack was offered, many years later. Because the signature codes were missing on the machines enabling some updates, when that SP3 pack came out it required this coding, which was missing on the pirated versions of Windows.

This may be the problem. If you search SP3 Windows update failures, you'll find this explanation better than I can give.

Sp3

Hello,
I had SP3 thru win updates, long download via dialup. Anyway after reading about it on a few tech forums I disabled it and found my puter worked faster, this PC is 10 years old(Dell) and its only used for surfing, also disabled Win updates. I'm cursed with only being able to have dialup. Still run XP and will keep using it being an old dog. I have a few extra hard drives if I need them plus all the Dell and XP software, also have an old Dell workstation given to me when I retired and its used for backup. Will post a new thread as I thinking about a laptop.
