Keeping your neck loose and functioning well
I would like to find someone to help keep my neck loose - it's not too bad at the moment, but with all the resting, cautious movement, etc. it's starting to get a bit stiff. Are there certain health professionals who can help with this (and not make the situation worse)? Massage therapist, chiropractor, osteopath? How do you find someone who really knows what he or she is doing? I would think that some sort of *gentle* massage from a well-trained professional experienced in TBI would be best, but I don't really know.

I have been seeing a chiropractor who also does acupuncture, and that has helped loosen my neck up quite a bit. He uses massage, acupuncture, and/or adjustments depending on how stiff my neck is on that particular day.
I also do a series of neck stretches every day (in the shower so the muscles are warmed up a bit): chin to chest, eyes to sky, ear to shoulder, rotate to each side, and chin tuck. I do 5 sets of these, holding each stretch for 5 seconds. |
