When does pain stop?

I had a massive head injury and broke my neck in 3 places (Twice in my cervical vertebrate & once in my thoracic vertebrate.) It is only by the grace of God that I am able to walk. I find the staunch atheists on here to be very entertaining.

I wanted to start a thread and ask my fellow TBI's injuries ... WHEN (if ever) does the pain go away? It's been 4 1/2 years since my injury and I am still on a TRUCKLOAD of heavy narcotics. **Just to get relief** I am on Opana 40mg (3 times per day) and Roxicodone (4 times per day). That keeps the pain "at bay." Do any of you all who've suffered from this injury have a similar experience? If you've gone through anything similar, can I expect the pain to eventually subside? My neurosurgeon told me, in NO uncertain terms that "this pain will be with you for the rest of your life."

Now, I know damn well that a doctor **MUST** cover his a## and not make a promise that is unrealistic. I respect that. I'd just like to know if any of you have achieved success through healing, and if so, HOW DID YOU DO IT?

Thank you all!

Is your neuro prescribing or are you seeing a pain management group? If you aren't, I feel they would be better suited to help you deal with the pain end of things. I COMPLETELY understand your need for relief, but heavy narcotics are probably going to put a wrench in your brain's healing process.

I don't know. I am going on year 3 of pain and I have tried to resign myself to a lifetime of pain. It actually has helped me from having panic attacks or getting angry with docs who cannot tell me what is wrong. And finally the pain is a little less, or maybe I am coping better...
Good Luck!
God Bless!

7/15/11: It all Ends.

(Billboard for Harry Potter Movie):)

Funny because 7/15 is my one year anniversery of my TBI (I will never need another anniversery til I get a divorce from this pain).

I'd love it to end on the 1-year date, but as has been mentioned, no one knows. Sorry to hear yours was so severe.

I would sacrifice much of what I have & gladly remain single for the rest of my life to know the answer to this $1,000,000 question most of us here wonder about.
