Another Newbie
Hi
I am looking for support and information for living with Huntington's Disease(husband), ADHD/ODD(child), and depression(myself). Mostly what I need is a place where I can discuss the difficulties of managing a family with multiple neurological and behavioral disease/disorders. If there is anyone from the Milwaukee/Madison Area in WI, I would especially like to connect with you. |

Hi LabGal and WELCOME!! You certainly have your hands full ! I imagine it IS difficult being the sole care-giver in the family ~ wives' always are the #1 caregiver. ;)
I think first you should concentrate on your depression -- because you won't be able to take care of ANYONE if you yourself aren't well. You might want to talk with your doctor about getting on an antidepressant -- I know that alot of us don't want to be on medications -- but it's imperative that you get your depression under control, because you situation isn't going to go away any time soon. An antidepressant does NOT numb your emotions or make you a space cadet -- it just "evens things out" so that you can cope. For some reason, when we're depressed we don't produce the hormones needed to keep us feeling "up" and positive. The antidepressant replaces those and allows us to focus & cope better. I've been on one for years, since I've been depressed since I was a child -- and this might sound dramatic, but it has saved my life! Counseling can be beneficial too, although it takes alot longer. Please take care of yourself -- and I wish you the very best. God bless & let us know how you're doing. Hugs, Lee :) |
