I like sports.

I like sports, my favorite teams are as follows, New England Patriots, Detriot Pistons and the Kentucky Wildcats. I am a big basketball fan. I was born at the University of Kentucky, so I guess you can see why I am a fan of theirs.

Hi Jennifer,
I'm in Australia. Most of our sport is done outside here, apart from basketball I guess, but we have seasonal sports... e.g. cricket in summer, rugby in winter. That's because our weather here is mild all year around. I like swimming for myself. I used to play a lot of sport when I was younger. I was a high jumper amongst other things. Used to play netball and hockey. The hockey we played was on grass and outside, not like ice hockey. I like cricket too. That's probably not played too much where you are. It's good that you like basketball so much. It's a pretty neat sport. Lots of Australians have gone over there to the US and done very well for themselves playing in US teams. Same with baseball. Baseball isn't played too much here... a few leagues around, but not big like where you live.

well, take care there,
Lara

Australians do very well coming over here and playing there prospective sports.

Lara 03-12-2007 05:30 PM

Yes, we love our sport!
There's big money to be made for those who are good enough to be chosen to play in those leagues over there. Lots of money. Nothing like here.

There's a very huge divide though between professional and amateur sportspersons. Same everywhere I suppose. Only a minority of people will make a lot money out of sport, the rest tend to have to struggle just to keep up with the cost of equipment and travel and just getting by from one event to the next. There is a lot of family input needed just to keep going. I thnk it's important that they don't crash and burn and that they have something else behind them to fall back on if it's needed.

You have to be really good here, to a least get into a decent college. Let's take the University of Kentucky, you have to be really really good to get onto their basketball, because basketball is the pride and soul of Kentucky. They even have shirts out that say my blood runs blue, Kentucky blue, then they have one out that says my blood runs red, Louisville red, so they take pride in the sport of basketball.

Jennifer, you left out the horses.

Lara 03-13-2007 03:10 PM

Fancy that. Louisville hey? I have a dear friend lives there. She even taught me how to say it properly. :D

Alabama seems to like the colour red too don't they... well, crimson. You know, Crimson Tide.

Never could understand what blood had to do with it, but that's just me LOL

There used to be this old perfume called Blue Grass and when I was a child I'd see bottles of it that relative had and it made me dream of far away places.

There is a book called "Icy Sparks" which is a fiction piece about a young girl who has Tourette Syndrome and she's growing up in Kentucky hills in the 50's. It was very descriptive of the area at the time.

Well, I'd better make a coffee and try to wake up now.

Lara 03-13-2007 03:51 PM

Hi LadyT.
No Nascar here where I am, but we host the Indy 300 every year in October. That's a really great but deafening experience. :D
