Foot Swelling from Neuropathy?
For the time being I only have problems with my left foot. Recently I have swelling on top of my foot. I take an extra Lasix (orders from doctor) and after a few days, the swelling goes away. I also have very strong burning sensations, and searing pain that last for a few minutes. My left foot feels like I stuck it in concrete and are unable to move it. And if it were to move, it feels like it would break. Are these feelings/sensations all part of neuropathy? Also, does the neuropathy pain continue to move on up the leg?
My neurologist hasn't explained much to me. Any comments and help will be greatly appreciated. |
Yes to all of the above :(
Just saw a new nuero doc last week and mentioned the swelling and he didnt even bother to look just said most people stay off there feet so even a visit to the doc can trigger swelling due to circulation issues. of course meds cause swelling as well. neuropathy spreads and its what makes it so difficult to deal with mentally. Some have had success with reversal but from what I see there aren't many. |
I have swelling. Also my pain has spread to both legs and also up the legs and into the foot more. I was told by my neurologist that PN can spread. Are you on any meds that may be causing swelling? Do you notice swelling more at certain times then other?
I know it can be hard to get answers from your neurologist but I encourage you to make a list of questions and concerns to ask him. This is your health and you deserve to have your questions answered |
Does it go down when you sleep or keep your foot up?
I have a large surgical scar on my instep from a tumor removal many years ago. That foot has always been larger in volume than the other (both have PN equally tho). Many shoes hit this area and it hurts then, so finding a shoe that works for me is tough. Lately the area has been swelling every day. I discovered that a laser pointer aimed at my scar and ankle for 15minutes each day prevents the swelling better than Lasix does. We have a post here on "light therapy" given by chiropractors (expensive), so I tested out my cat's laser on it. When I noticed a mild response, I bought a stronger laser pointer, and now that swelling is no more when I use it every day. It does return if I don't laser it. So far I do 15 minutes a day with the thing... which I paid $2.89 on Ebay for! It might be worth a try for you. My other foot with PN does not swell, so I always thought this issue for me was somehow connected to the surgery's aftermath and damage to the lymphatic drainage of the area. |
