newly diagnosed toddler

Just wondering the ages of others diagnosis for Hydrocephalus? My son was just diagnosed after we saw a head circumference jump at his 18 month visit. He has had no developmental delays so far, but aqueductal stenosis and enlarged ventricles were confirmed on his MRI. I have mainly found others with children who were diagnosed in utero. I am hopeful to find some others who faced something similar and learn about their experiences.

I'm so sorry about your little guy, Melisa.

Welcome to NT -- this is a good place to come for advice and support. I hope you will get some helpful responses, but I really haven't seen much discussion on that particular topic.

Please feel free to jump in anywhere and post. We're glad you joined us! :)

Eraly detection

My hydrocephalus was not discovered until after I was born in september of 1979. Simular to your son my head kept getting larger and it was caught and and diagnosed. It it is caught early enough then that is a very good sign. I am now 32 years old and for the most part have lived a fairly nornal life. I had revisions as a child on my shunt. I went roughly 23 years or so with no issues until last year when I had a breakage in my tubing and had to have another tube inerted. Everything is fine now and so as long as you watch for small things to change I think it will be ok.
