Feeling Human!!
Sunday will be 6 months since my injury. I have finally had two days in a row now where I actually felt human!! Yesterday I did get a headache, but it was a very mild one shortly before bedtime. Today, no headache!
I have been on amitriptyline for about two weeks now and it seems to be helping quite a lot with the headaches. It does make me sleepy, but that is getting better and better with time also. I'm so encouraged by the past two days. I have had energy to be able to do things around the house, gone for short drives, and even been in stores briefly without symptoms. Hoping that this is the turning point and I am finally on the road to recovery. Thanks so much to everyone here who has provided encouragement and support. You have been lifesavers! |
Glad you are feeling so good. Just don't get over confidant. The amitriptyline just helps with the symptoms. Your brain still needs to finish healing.
I suggest you re-enter life very slowly. Maybe over the next two months. There is nothing as discouraging as a relapse from getting back into life too quickly. My best to you. |
Excellent news! It seems that 6+ months is quite common as a recovery time. I talked to someone the other day whose symptoms took over a year to go away completely. She's been symptom-free for a couple of years now.
I second Mark's suggestion to go slow. I'm no expert, but building as secure a foundation as possible for full recovery would seem to make sense. |
Yes, definitely have to get back into things slowly. I still get mild headaches if I push it too much, but they are 1-2 instead of 5-6 like they had been. Fortunately, it's summer so I have a few more weeks before school starts and can work on ramping up to that. Still not sure if I'll be able to get straight back into full-time classroom teaching in the fall, but at least it seems like possibility I can imagine now.

Amitriptyline helped me a ton too but i could feel the concussion in a lesser behind the scenes sort of way and still guage it. One day even with the amitriptyline I could feel the concussion was lifting. Amitriptyline just helped me to feel much better while I was recovering. It did give me a somewhat normal life back while waiting! Enjoy that feeling but don't push it.
