The Big Picture

Life is But a Weaving
~~author unknown~~

My life is but a weaving
Between my God and me.
I cannot choose the colors
He weaveth steadily.

Oft’ times He weaveth sorrow;
And I in foolish pride
Forget He sees the upper
And I the underside.

Not ‘til the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly
Will God unroll the canvas
And reveal the reason why.
The dark threads are as needful
In the weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned

He knows, He loves, He cares;
Nothing this truth can dim.
He gives the very best to those
Who leave the choice to Him.

Nice poem. Or is it a song? Either way, I like it. :)

It's pretty thought-provoking, too. I read it three times to make sure I took it all in...

beautiful chemar! thank you.

idealist...did you just say the words? then it's a poem. tap your foot too...it's a song. :p

yep...you can say it or sing it :)

I first read it as a young girl when my mom gave it to me, on one of those old tapestry style sampler thingies.

It had a very vivid impact on me.

When I read it, I always picture this great big tapestry above my head, with lotsa loose threads dangling down at me, looking all messy and incomplete, and with the muted colours and blurred images that one sees on the underside of a tapestry.
But above it, is God smiling as He looks down at this absolutely perfect work of art that He is weaving, with brilliant colors and clarity:p

It really helps me thru those "I dont understand why this is happening" times:o

LOL, Cheri - no peeking into the oven until the cake is done :p

That was a beautiful poem. As a kid, I questioned the need for all the dark threads in my life. I tried in vain to remove them, but it left too many holes. I fought hard to cover them up, but they always reappeared.

I finally stopped trying to re-create his creation. Instead, I learned to cherish the dark threads as much as the light threads - to have faith that the artist knows what he's doing.

The dark threads now in my life don't belong to me. I worry about the dark threads in the world today. I wonder why so many think they are doing God's will by attempting to remove them or cover them up.

I wonder if they'll ever stop fighting and start loving each other in God's name. I wonder if they'll ever learn to TRULY love others as they love themselves - not just those who love them back or treat them with kindness.

I hope I'll see the day when people will love and respect their enemies as much as they do their own loved ones. :cool:
