I do not understand this article!!!

Hi All.

I just read this right now when I was on yahoo.

I read it twice. I don't understand what they mean by INTENSIVE treatmet. I was in the Accord Program 4 years ago and all the Intensive people were moved into the Standard Group.

I was in the Standard Group and I did fine.

But this was not about the Accord Program.

And they don't indicate exactly what they mean by intensive treatment. Can someone explain please.

Here's the link:

Thanks much

I think they are talking about if intensive tx of diabetes is partly for cardio- vascular reasons, that it [ "did not significantly reduce cardiovascular death or all-cause death, but it was associated with a 15 percent reduced risk of non-fatal heart attack".]

I think "intensive" just means a high dose or super focused tx to lower blood sugars.

[But, intensive treatment was also linked with a more than twofold increase in the risk of dangerously low blood glucose levels (severe hypoglycemia), the investigators noted in a journal news release.]

Hi, I remember when I was in the ACCORD program that we all got a letter indicating that the people in the intensive part of the program (that was not me), were being moved over to the conservative part of the program (that was what I was in). It seemed that some people DIED.

I tried to get answer but didn't get much.

I did however read a medical journal that explained the whole thing but I'm not a doctor so most of that went over my head but it had to do with blood vessels I think.

Scary stuff diabetes.I'll fight this disease to my dying breath. That's why I eat the way I do and eat organic and grow much of what I eat, I grow it in my kitchen.

Do you know that I know SO MANY diabetics who 1. do not check their blood sugar, 2. go to Dunkin Donuts and eat ice cream 3.eat and drink whatever they want including regular soda and the best one is 4. I know I man who is diabetic, has pancreatis, and drinks beer from the moment he wakes up in the morning.

Addiction is a horrible thing. So is obesity.

I learned late in life about eating, but I'm applying it.

take care and be well.

Mel
