I have a very good chance of getting into the trial as they called to schedule a consultation appointment.

question: I work at the hospital- I feel bad for just ditching out after 4 weeks and saying I have a stem cell transplant...so how do I go
about it? I know you will all have very good answers to this. I don't believe I get fmla yet because of only working 4 weeks, and I just don't know
who to contact because I am not 100% sure of if I got in or not.

Just my suggestions, take 'em or leave 'em as you will:

1. I'd not leave the job without knowing if I was in the trial or not.
2. I'd not wait to talk to my manager/immediate supervisor to let them know what is happening.

Surely you'll know at least 2 weeks in advance if you are in the trial before anything actually starts. Let your manager know this trial is a possibility but at this point is just a possibility that you'd like to take advantage of if you are selected. Keep them in the loop and they'll probably do what they can to help you out. If you keep it a secret until the last minute you'll end up leaving on bad terms and that can hurt you in the long run.

It will take several weeks for everything to be scheduled, if you are even accepted. Don't assume anything. They like to schedule lots of folks, as they still get income from pre-trial testing! Sad but true!

If you get in, then you can worry about the job. One thing at a time.

It will take them a couple of months just to verify the insurance coverage and get approval. If you have any upfront expenses like with medicare, I have to come up with 25k before they will schedule it. I had my consultation in December and just learned last month that when I come up with the money then we are ready to schedule it. So you will have time to get everything else figured out.

Tyson, Look into whether or not you have the ability to take a leave of absence instead of outright quitting. Do you have disability insurance or any other type through work?

Of course, trying to go into remission is probably more important than a job at your age. ;)

thanks for the Input guys- I do not have any upfront costs, my deductible has been met if that's what your talking about. I hope it is anyway:)
