Welcome, Mark!
I'm so glad you found us. It probably good to cut out even the little but of drinking, but when's the last follow-up you've had for the June event? The extreme dizziness, lethargy, & poor concentration can certainly be part of post concussion, tho typically show up before now according to Mayo Clinic's website at http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/con...CTION=symptoms
The article says, "The most common symptoms after a concussive traumatic brain injury are headache, amnesia and confusion. The amnesia, which may or may not be preceded by a loss of consciousness, almost always involves the loss of memory of the impact that caused the concussion." The link will take you to the site for more details. Our Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Concussion Syndrome or traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post concussion syndrome (PCS) is at: http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html With your life ahead of you & those kids anxiously watching their daddy not being so good, I do hope you'll follow up with hands-on medical care. My best wishes & prayers are with you. Keep in touch, & let us know what we can do. This is not only a smart bunch--they're a caring group. They've been here for me equally when I'm celebrating or been scared to tears. :circlelove: |

nobody seems to understand!
Hey everyone, I'm Dan.. 24 yr old male (25 this coming labor day)
I hit my head on my bathroom sink 3 and 1/2 weeks ago 8/7/11. After hitting my head my mom wanted to rush me to the ER but however I was really stubborn and seemed to be alright following the fall. After 10 days or so I made an appointment with my family doctor as I was feeling lethargic and lightheaded. She told me that I most likely suffered a mild concussion and these were lingering symptoms that sometimes last longer than the usual few days. A week later I started getting headaches, I have had headaches before but every so often.. I've very rarely taken Tylenol or any otc of that nature. The headaches are hard to describe, they seem like my brain is too big for my skull and they differ but are usally brought about from tension or stress. a week ago I had a CT scan which came back normal which helped put my mind at rest at least a little. However this week i'm becoming more anxious as the 1 month spot is coming up (on my birthday actually) Obviously I wont be doing much celebrating as I can't drink without causing a huge headache. Nor do I really have a desire to anymore, quite frankly. I cancled a trip last weekend up to Boston to see the girl I'm in love with (she doesen't know) because I didnt think flying would be such a great idea. My other injuries in life were easy to deal with because there was a proper time table of when I would be better. For this matter, depending on what I read is 3 months-years and sometimes permanent, so obviously that doesen't help me out either.. i'm frustrated and just hope to make a turn around soon! -Dan- |
I'm glad you're here, Dan. Welcome!
It would, of course, have been better had you gone to the ER immediately after hitting your head--but you didn't. Okay, it happened.
So you learn from it, forgive yourself, and move on. Anyone with concussion has reason for concern. I have a poor sense of balance, yet as a kid insisted that I could learn to ride a bike. Two concussions later, my mother AND doctor informed me that bike riding was off my bucket list. You are doing the right things now. Folks will be by to suggest things, but mainly I would encourage you to be cautious (and you are being, as in the no-liquor decision) but try not to panic. Stress is not what you need. You didnt say how you were following up on the CT scan; you need to follow up with someone, your primary doc or someone, because if there's nothing on the scan you want to find the cause of the headaches. But stress, for sure, you don't need. And stress headaches come in many forms. Turn this all over to people who know, do not just worry yourself sick. Stay in touch. Happy Birthday-coming-up! |
