If I buy a tower, can I still use my monitor?

Okay, we have settled on getting another Desktop. I just need to know which is the better deal.

First one. The tower has Windows 7 home premium, 1.5 Terrabyte and 8 gigs of Ram. It's at Staples and it's $499.00 (obviously plus shipping and taxes)
AMD Phenom 960T Quad Core Processor
Number associated with this is P7-1020/329411

or

HP desktop PC with Intel Core i.5-2390T Processor with Turbo Boost 2.0
512 MB dedicated graphics Windows 7 Home Premium Price is $649.99 FREE DELIVERY!!
Oh, the number associated with this item is
HB-1010/329412

I have no idea if these things have software already installed. I'll call up to find out. Or we will go to Staples and find out.

Oh, "we don't need a new monitor".

I have a beautiful flat screen HP Monitor that is 5 years old, it has a headphone jack (extremely needed). And it works fine.
Will my monitor work with either of these?

And I only need a computer to go on the internet. And I use my Flip.

I would assume that both of these have dvd roms, etc??

So if you had to choose, which one is the better deal!!!

THANKS MUCH

Melody

Those have way more memory than you would ever need for mostly internet use. The HD is huge - I haven't even put a dent in my 1T drive space.
I don't know if you would ever use the wireless card?

just thinking why pay for much more than you will need since technology is improving at such a fast rate.

and as long as the monitor plugs in it should work just fine.

There are some Basic desktops that would fit your needs just fine - and a bit less $$ too -

What is the Wireless Card and what does it do? and isn't it true that the more RAM you have, the faster you go on the internet?? Loading up pages, going from site to site???

Thanks much

Okay, I clicked on this one and it doesn't mention a dvd rom drive. It doesn't have one of those things??

Okay, I am DEFINITELY liking this one.

I checked the specs and it indicates it has 6 USBs, so I can do the Flip, my printer, the keyboard and the mouse, right?

I just want to make sure that I'm reading this correctly because when you look at the tower it only shows two USB's on the front and I'm thinking, the others must be on the back, right?

http://www.staples.com/HP-Pavilion-S...5#revs_content

So I gather I just go and get this, and plug my monitor in, and (oh, I like my own keyboard, it's a KEYS U SEE KEYBOARD with BIG keys). I can use my own keyboard right?

And for the money, this does not come with a monitor, right?

The price is great.

Just clear up my questions, and I think this is the one I should get.

What a difference in savings. And thanks much.

I just have to make sure there's a plug and play thing for my monitor (Is that what VGA connection means?)

Jo:

I just took a video of the back of my computer so you could see the monitor plug. Do most towers have the input that would allow me to use my present monitor?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G6Mjmbh07eg

I just want to make sure. I'M LEARNING.

lol

Melody (and thanks much)

1 -a wireless card is what allows you to connect to a wireless signal.
If you don't need a wireless connection you don't need the wireless card

2- up to a point but 8 G ram is more for gamers & people using a lot of programs at one time.
2.5 G is what I have and it loads pages just fine - I had 1.5 until just this spring.

So, from the video I showed you, (the back of my tower), I can use my present monitor right?

And thanks for the info on the dvd rom drive. I had no clue what all those specifications were.

So, so far, I'm good to go. I ran this by Allengamer and he did indicate that the HP Slimlines only last one year.

I have to look into that.

But I do like this one

And THANKS.

so if all my ducks are in a row, this is a good deal right?

Melody

Monitor connections are standard for the industry- as long as the plug fits into the computer - it should work fine.

What about asking the computer guy that has worked on yours before,
how much to upgrade it?

But didn't you just get a new mother board & hard drive and more memory fairly recently this spring??

Is it still having problems?
Or are you getting the new one as a second computer?
