VIMPATŪ (lacosamide) for seizures

Does anybody use VIMPATŪ (lacosamide) for seizures? If so, how effective did you find it to be. Side effects? And what type seizures did or are you using it for. Thank you! Keep fighting!!!

Hi untilthebell,

Welcome to the forum! I've been taking vimpat for over a yr. now for complex partial seizures, absence (petit mal) seizures, and myoclonic seizures.
Since I've been on the vimpat the myoclonic seizures have stopped and I've had only 2-4 complex partial seizures this past yr. Now I only have the absence seizures. The drug works very well for me along with taking Diamox and mysoline. Some of the side effects are feeling dizziness, light headed, or a rapid heartbeat but that goes away after being on the drug for awhile. The main thing to watch is for liver problems you need to have blood tests done every 3-4 months to make sure everything is okay. I always have a complete blood count done that way the Dr. can check everything and make sure all is well with me. I wish you the best of luck and May God Bless You!

My Vimpat Experience

I took Vimpat for 4 months as monotherapy for my simple partial seizures. It controlled them 100%. About a week after starting Vimpat, I began experiencing moodiness which progressively deepened to moderate depression over the next several months. After discontinuing the Vimpat, the depression went away within a week. I also experienced tinnitus and short-term memory problems with Vimpat.
