Kudos to Madden 12
I just saw on my local news that the new Madden football video game, has some new features that puts an emphasis on the seriousness of concussion injuries.
Madden himself is quoted by espn saying that he hopes as young children begin playing the video game, they will take the seriousness given to the issue in the game, onto the field with them and not feel pressured to keep playing after a brain injury. I think any awareness to what we all suffer from, is a good thing. Even better if we can prevent young children from experiencing it! |

However, they are trying to make the game safer via fines and harsher penalties for headhunting. The stupid part is that the players are against the new fines and penalties, saying that they cheapen the way the game is being played. |
Glad to see John Madden speaking out.
Dr Julian Bailes and Dr Robert Cantu have been outspoken about the problems for about 20 years. Maybe we need the Consumer Product Safety Commission to require warning labels on football helmets and soccer balls. |
I recently read an article posted in CNN.com that a study was done showing that the majority of ex football players exhibit signs of dementia or alzheimers from their multiple concussions suffered in their life. I dont have the exact numbers but it was a shocking figure. Definetly makes me think once i have kids, i will not let them play such dangerous contact sports.
