Valerian Root for sleep?

Has anybody tried this? I have tried everything under the sun for sleep. And the past weeks/months I am up all night long laying in bed eyes clothes, but I can not fall asleep.

Has anyone tried this? My mom got it for me and I took one tonight and am hoping for the best! :)

I haven't tried that but when I was watching the moon pass my windows and listening to the sounds of night critters I got some relief from Trazadone and melatonin.

Hope you catch some zzzzs soon!

I have tried Valerian Root several different times over the last 15years because I don't sleep well without any success. Initially, I thought maybe it was the manufacturer as not all herbal manufacturers are the same so over the years I have tried several different ones. No luck. Maybe it will work for you though.

i have not slept one night in weeks

Thanks guys. I figured id try. No luck yet. I've been up all night long and can't fall asleep if my life depended on it, I lay in the dark doing deep relaxing breathing and can't sleep... I've tried sleep music everything. I've taken meds for sleep and just sick of gaining weight and getting the bad side effects from them like feeling in a fog all day while not even getting restfuk sleep. I just have nightmares all night long so what's the point? I've tried tryptophan, melatonin, 5htp, valerian root probably every herbal thing that promots sleep out there and now im just wasting my moolah. I could buy me a cute bag with all the money wasted on meds and stuff that doesn't work. Sigh... anyways... its nice to know im not the only one who doesn't sleep :) makes me feel more rsd normal :)

Hannah,

At times a combination of Melatonin and 5htp work great for me, other times, like post ketamine (currently), nothing does. I had also tried prescription sleeping meds in the past and none worked until Dr. Shwartzman put me on Trazodone. It was great, no next day drowsiness.

It's an anti-depressant but also helps with pain and sleep. I just took the lowest dose and while on it, hadn't missed a nights sleep in 6 months. I recently stopped as my new doctor was concerned about serotonin syndrome but now I do seem to be having trouble sleeping again.

ugh!! I know how you feel Hannah

RSD makes sleep darn near impossible for me too. I've tried it all- valarian root, passionflower extract, melatonin, herbal tea...the list goes on. My neuro doc has my on klonapin to sleep, problem is its great for falling asleep just not staying asleep. I have been awake since 3:15 this morning. But, I have found one herbal med that works but I only take it the nights I don't take the klonapin. (sp?) Its called Dreaminol. Its made from casein decapeptides, 5-HTP, L-theanine, and melatonin. You can find it at health food stores. It seems to help me stay asleep longer than other OTC meds do. Just don't take it every night or your body will get used to it and it stops working. Hope that helps!
