More weather woo's Weather channel alerting!

We are having after affects of the storm systems. First the 6 inches of rain from Irene last weekend, now a storm system and remnents of Lee have dropped 9 inches in the last 4 days. Another 2 inches until tomorrow.

The Wyoming Valley is on the verge of mass evacuation again. The Weather channel, Dr. Forbes is fearing the weaken dikes, and then ON SLAUGHT of rains through the night coming from MD, over us in PA, up into NY are a dangerous situation...
Right over the heart of the Susquehanna River...

The flood level is about 20 ft, with a river crest of 40 ft expected. The dikes around the city itself were improved to 41 ft after Agnus flooded the entire valley years ago 1972.

About June 2006 hundreds of thousands were evacuated because the dikes only protect the city. All the outlying community's, towns and boroughs have no protection.
It is still raining out now not much chance of rain to lighten by the morning moving toward NY.

NY is where the Susquehanna River starts...bringing all the heavy rain from there down to us. The streams and creeks already have roads shut down, washed away, or impassable from the deep raging waters over their banks.

I have been so busy with insurance claims, hurried to do 3 today as roadways were being closed behind me. I drove over the river coming home and they started putting the flood gates up where the bridge is covered by water in a few feet.

Just like New Orleans, the dikes raise far above us. So many are spending tonight in shelters with their families wondering if the river will break through, or in the low lying areas if they will have a home to go back to. Trailers parks and cottages along the river are already covered in water.

I am on the Mountain, streams, wet ground from Springs shooting up like fountains, and trees so heavy in the weak ground dirts....mud.

I wish that we could give some of this rain to Texas. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Thanks all, Steve I wish we could too. Started another heavy band now. The entire Wyoming Valley is evacuated.

Already the streams and low lying river areas are under water. The main Interstate across PA I-80 is closed in a section because the river is over the roadways, and every roadway that would be a detour.

I am not in threat of flood to the home on the mountain, but the springs shooting out of the ground and Mt. have me concerned for the landslide and trees falling. The streams running down the mountain to the nearby creek have local roads closed with flash flooding so really can't get further then the local store.
No work today..
Well, dd cyber schools so that will keep us busy for awhile. Let you know how things are later.

Di, I've been watching the channel 6 news and weather - it's been awful! I saw near Philly where a river overflow caused a mudslide that closed a major highway. This has been incredible, and more rain is still expected. In NJ, we haven't had quite the rain amounts that they have had in PA, although we have already had about 5 inches...

Stay safe, glad you don't have to work today!

Bizi, the heavy inch an hr rain has stopped. We are calling for showers and thunderstorms until TUESDAY. The most threatening storm system to affect us is stuck at the border of PA, DC and MD. YEAH.
I actually saw the sun peak for a bit at sunset!

Haven't moved far from the tv all day watching the flood gates and the flooding of low lying areas.
The major city has levies that are up to 41 ft where the river is to crest. There is gaskets weakening and shoring up with sand and even a payloader against the gate.
Forty Fort is having a major breach on the West Side right now.

The low lying areas where homes were seen going down the river and sticking bridges. Jet skis, boats, cars were going down the river.

Cantorie is in Wilkes Barre, and Ann Thompson is in Forty Fort where the breach is happening.

The crest will happen over night. Praying the flood gate holds, but many parts already have horrific damages, road washed away, even the local fair grounds and Knoebles amusement park are anialiated. The fair grounds are still under water and the fair starts in just over 2 weeks.

Tomorrow dh and I are going to the CEO to help sort food for the shelters. 100,000 people can not go home until at least Saturday. The river has to go below flood stage as to not break through dikes with people there.
Going to try and sleep without watching the river all night. By 2 am the worse rising should be done.
The water shooting out of the mountain has calmed down, still coming up out of the ground and running down the driveway.

I can't even imagine how many insurance claims I am going to have.

this is horrible:(....holding my breath that it all is over as soon as possible.
sigh~
