gall bladder not working

I just got the results of my hydrascan back. My gall bladder isnt working as well as it should. Going to talk with GI doctor tomorrow. The RN said that I would be given the name of a surgeon.

Question: Could Rebif be the cause???? Or any of the many drugs Im on?
Doesnt rebif cause problems with the liver? The liver and gallbladder are connected.

Should I stop Rebif or wait and talk to doctor? Supposed to take shot tonight.

Thanks!!!!!!

Rebif, Gabapentin, nexium, pristiq, provigil and countless others.

I'm not on Rebif so I can't say I know much about it but I do think it is kin to my Avonex but taken daily instead of weekly and in a slightly different form. I don't think it would bother your gall bladder, potential to bother your liver, yes. but not your gal bladder. The little mini gall bladder operations are simple.

While the liver produces bile, the gall bladder only stores it and releases it when extra bile is needed. It is not an uncommon issue as we get older. And, laparoscopic or not, gall bladder surgery is still surgery. I would wait to see what the GI says, and be sure to ask him about all possible options. There is a difference between a gall bladder ceasing to function well ... and being filled with stones or the duct being blocked.

I don't necessarily think that GB problems are caused by Meds, but could be? Stress and rich foods are more the culprits, IMHO!!

I had the long version of GB operation and it took a long time to heal. The simple version is better, if they can do it, but all surgery is serious and complications are always possible.

It is possible to treat GB (stones and sand), without surgery, if it is not too far gone, I hope you have a non surgical option, but if not, just remember to do your breathing exercises, while healing.

There are two major things that can improve bile flow.

If there are no stones or obstructions:
1) 1000mg of Taurine (an amino acid) can help things along.

2) Yerba Mate tea, is excellent for improving gall bladder tone and bile flow too.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11297866

A choleretic is something that helps bile flow better.
I'd suggest EcoTeas organic Yerba Mate if you decide to try it.

At this point, it would be a good idea before considering surgery.
I've used both at some points in my life, because I get stasis now and then.

But if you have stones... neither is a good idea at this point.
Surgery can help, but keep in mind some surgeries do not solve this problem.

Hi MM,
If I may ask, what were your symptoms that started you on this GB journey? Was it pain? Trouble with certain foods? Just curious.
Good luck with the endoscope. I hope all is well. You have enough on your plate. Ask about the Rebif, to be sure.

My symptoms were the pain. It was long enough ago that I can't recall what it was like, but my doctor knew to get either an ultrasound or a CT, I can't remember. After that I saw a surgeon, had the little mini lap surgery and the rest is history. One good thing came out of it. Our best man at our wedding had moved out of town and we hadn't seen him in years, I mean years. So my husband comes up to visit me in my room with this big guy with him. I was so happy. He later married our good friend. so good things do happen. I'm not sure if a GB surgery is supposed to be a matchmaker but it worked for them.
