DocJohn - Question re putting useful link bars across the top of each page
 

I don't know if this has been fully considered or not, but BT1 still lists across the top of each page a short group of useful links, including those to the Public Library of Science [http://www.plos.org/], Dictionary.Com [http://dictionary.reference.com/], the "On-Line Medical Dictionary" [http://cancerweb.ncl.ac.uk/omd/], PubMed [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q...cgi?DB=pubmed] and MedlinePlus [http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...ormation.html].

I don't know what's required in terms of any weblink agreements, but to the extent these sort of links could be incorporated in the standard Neurotalk page, it could be of some considerable use.

Second unrelated and therefore OT reference in this thread starter (maybe a record of some sort?), but has any though been given to somehow incorporating a spell checking program with either the threads or the PMs? I ask only in light of the impaired condition in which I sometimes find myself on line. On the other hand, if it would be too expensive to incorporate, I would understand completely.

Spelling is easy and added as a new feature now. You'll see a little ABC with a checkmark. Click on it to go in and check your spelling.

The links people should bookmark for now. We may add them at a later date, but if people really do find them useful & helpful, you should have them with you all the time when your browsing the Web.

What I usually did when starting a large post was to type it in Word first, do the spell check there, and then paste it in here. This will eliminate that step. Thank you so much for being so proactive to the needs of all.

Thank you very much for the spell check. I'm sure a lot of people will use it.

[I just tested it and it obviously uses English-US as the base, so I just wanted to let others know that if they use Mozilla Firefox as their browser, it has a built in spell checker which one can adjust to their own specific language by adding dictionaries. e.g. I use English-Australia. That way I don't get corrected all the time. You just need to highlight the field you want checked, right click, and click on Spell check this field. I have no idea if IE has that feature.]

With respect, I don't think that putting the aforementioned links in my favorites (which at last count had only 300 or so entries) is nearly as convenient as having them right there across the top of the page.

I would urge you to reconsider the matter.

I appreciate the spell check, Doc John. I wasn't going to reply on this thread, but just had to to check out the new feature! I put in 3 misspellings, and the spell check caught them all though it only gave me correct options on 1 of the 3. Still, it did catch all 3 of them, which is a big plus for me, since I absolutely HATE typos!!!!!
