Magnesium and D3

Hi,

It's been a while since I've been here, but said "today's the day."

A few questions:

1. Is it okay to take D3 if one has not shown a deficiency on testing but is an old lady, like me, who must stay out of the sun because of Sjogren's effect on my skin, and if so how many IU's per day is safe?

2. Just saw online what is actually an ad for Jigsaw Magnesium (brand name). It claims to be the real deal and not the kind one finds in supermarkets, drugstores, etc.

Is there a substantive difference in brands of magnesium, and how much in pill form is safe per day?

D'akujem, (that's "thank you" in Slovak)

Jigsaw looks okay to me on ingredients and labeling.

I'd break up the 4 tablets into divided doses, just in case they are laxative. They give elemental on the label, and that is good.
But I have never used them, so I do not have personal experience. 4 tabs =500mg elemental
The ingredients for the 120 SRT says in the text, benfotiamine in it but hovering over the nutritional label does not show any.
The B6 in it is quite low, not a high dose at all, but is P5P.

So that is an error of some kind?

What did you test at for the D3? That would determine what to take if any.

MrsD -

I don't remember what I tested for on D and can't find the result, but was told it was "normal."

Well, "normal" doesn't mean much in this instance.

30 could be "normal" but it is below ideal, according to the newer guidelines.

I guess you need to call the doctor and get the result. I would do that before guessing on how much D3 to take.
