confidentiality of SSDI
I was wondering if anyone knew about the confidientiality of a disability for which you receive social security. I had a doctor release information about my disability into my hospital record without discussing this with me. It lead to my being written off without really looking for the medical problem. I thought this information was protected and needed your approval to release. Am I wrong?

If I understand what you are asking is...is it okay for your doctor to release information to another entity. If that is what you are asking, no your doctor cannot release information without your permission. If you were in the hospital and he was your attending physician and entered information into your file, that would be different. I can't imagine any reason for a doctor to release information to a hospital unless it was pertinent for care.
I think you need more information on why this was done. |
Lily,
HIPPA allows a doctor or medical person to give private knowledge to another medical person IF it pertains to your treatment. For that there is no authorization needed. HIPPA does not allow your doctor or any medical person to discuss your illness with anyone else without you permission. Listing you illness in a hospital record is allowed as that is a record of your treatment and if you need a followup that would be of interest to the next doctor. Newfie11 |
