About a month ago my feet started to itch. I got betameth (augmented) from the foot Dr. It pretty much took care of the itching feet & then I noticed the itch began rising up the legs. Once it hit the knees I stopped the ointment & off to the hospital. They gave me some prednisone & hydrxyzine.
Does any one know what drug will stop this rash which is now in my fingers? I assumed it was caused becaused I scratched @ the feet & legs. I read
this damn RSD can cause it.
The hospital adviced seeing a nose & throat Dr. to find what "allergy" caused the rash.

If anyone knows what will stop the scratching I would appreciate it.

Hi there. Just saw this post, and had some thoughts for you.

Rashes are very difficult to pinpoint.

Two very common causes are 1) gluten sensitivity which can cause a very itchy rash called dermatitis herpitformis.
2) a reaction to the scabies mite. This original lesion might be anywhere on the body, but once you become sensitized to it, the rash develops all over.

Of course one would wonder about fungus..since it started on your feet.

I think a visit to a good dermatologist is in order. Perhaps the steroid is not working or even spread it.

One of the things that I find the most frustrating about RSD is when you get a new symptom that COULD be caused by RSD but you really don't know if it is or not until you rule out other possibilities. RSD can cause some pretty strange stuff, including itching, but there are also a lot of other things that can cause some of those symptoms. I think that you should follow up with the other doctors to make sure that it's not something else.

I have had a ton of new symptoms spring up over the past 10 months and itching was one of them. Turns out it is from the RSD and it happened in all the new and old areas where I was experiencing the RSD pain. Nothing I tried that was for itching really helped at at and I felt like I was going mad. The last time it happened the itching lasted about 2 weeks and it was accompanied by red bumps and welts. I found that the best thing was just to use lotion on my skin to take the edge off a little. Nothing made it go away and I tried all sorts of creams and gels meant for itching. In the end, Jergens Ultra Healing lotion was what I used. I don't have dry skin, so it wasn't that, and it didn't STOP the itching, just took that edge off that was literally driving me mad. It's terrible when it hurts to have anything touch you and you feel like you have to scratch because the itchiness is driving you insane.

But definitely check to make sure it's not something else (allergy, infection, or something else). Because the good news if it is something besides RSD is that you can get treatment and get it fixed. But no way to know unless you get it checked out.

There is a lotion that works for many people that targets itching.

It is called Sarna lotion. It may work...and is steroid free.

Some pharmacies have to special order it, and some places do carry it on the shelf.

The "sensitive" one is new. I've had the experience with the original formula. I have seen many people over the years rave about this as very helpful.

I was awoke every other hour last night w/ this rash. Now its back to the feet again. The last dose of prednison was Fri. I guess I'll have to annoy some Dr.

A dermatologist told me to try using a few ounces of bleach in my bathwater for several days to clear up some odd, likely RSD immunity suppressed, skin issues. It wouldn't hurt to ask your derm if this is something you can try.

Also, RASHES are often a side effect of meds. Check to see if anything you're taking could be the culprit, even a med that you've been taking a while can suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, cause you problems!

Check your bed for both bed bugs and carpet beatles. Both are very common. :eek:

Hi, just saw your post and yes I had itching and red bumps on my toes and feet in the 1st month of RSD. It about drove me crazy!! I found that plain old anti-itch cream, (like for bug bites) the type you get at Walgreens or Rite-Aid that just says "Anti-Itch Cream" worked ok for me. Maybe it helped because I wanted it to so badly...not really sure. But its cheap and you can get it at any drug store. I hope you find some relief for your itching, it can just about make you nuts! Some anti-itch creams are hydrocortisone-- a steroid.

Others are steroid free and contain pramoxine...

The new Sarna "Sensitive" lotion has pramoxine in it.

So do read your labels. Sarcasm did not find steroids to be helpful..and so hydrocortisone would be a waste for this problem.

RSD can also cause skin blemishes...seems they appear on our skin in our affected areas.. I have several on my back since my internal chest wall involvement...they appear as dark, rough, circular raised spots... Resemble age spot on our bodies...

I got the impression this was a rash, not bites or separate lesions. But people vary in the use of terms for skin conditions.
For instance shingles may look like a rash at times, but other times there are just discreet vesicles. They don't itch tho, and mostly hurt.

I am familiar with the posts here on skin lesions, and discoloration.

But it is always a good idea to rule out something on top of the RSD... especially here where the severe itching and spreading was so quickly manifesting.

Some rashes hurt (I've had photosensivity reactions on my arms that burned like the devil). But a very itchy rash, can be many things and mostly dealt with if the right doctor looks at it.

Taking a picture and posting can help with this.
There are also viral exanthems but they don't itch as a rule.
