It's Official. I'm A Nutcase.
Well all, I will be checking into a psych ward for extensive therapy and testing. I just can't take this anymore and it's time to do something. I'm tired of not being taken seriously and feeling like a crazy person. I'll let you all know how it goes.

Wow
If any one had any idea how many times I have tried to get my self to do exactly this. There is no doubt in my mind that the nut house is the only place that I should have been since my head got wacked. I just can not handle the idea of being locked in with a bunch of other people or i would do it right now also. I think I could only do it if they sined some thing legal that said that they would have to keep me drugged in oblivion the entire time.

Agreed - get the help you need, keep the faith, and keep in touch. Remember that people generally do improve over time following an MTBI.

My biggest concern for in-patient psychiatric treatment is the risk of brain injury from trying various meds at high levels. Many psych facilities use patients as test cases.
Have you had a Neuro-Psych Assessment? It should be done before any inpatient therapy. You need to get a baseline of your condition. |
Where can I get a neuro-psych assessment? I'd like to get a full battery of tests.

howd it go?

psych. eval
wow! you have no idea how many times this conversation comes up with my partner too. unfortunately we've not heard good feedback from those who have committed themselves, due to TBI, and if they've had good results. i'm so afraid to suggest it, and he's so afraid they will keep him there. we can't seem to get positive help from Neurologists, Neuro Psychiatrist has sent us home back to fam Dr. and we just can't seem to find the help he needs. has anyone been to pyschiatric eval. and come out feeling better?

You get a neuro-psychological assessment done by a neuro-psychologist. They can be quite expensive, up to $4000 depending on the neuro-psych and the battery of tests he uses.
They are valuable at diagnosing the conditions of your brain. It can show memory difficulties, executive function problems, etc. With this information, you can start working at learning ways to work-around the dysfunctions you have, rather than constantly questioning your own sanity. The Halstead-Reitan battery is the most commonly used battery of tests. |
